Hello everyone.
I just received a job offer to work in the South Florida area and I wanted to receive input from anyone as far as what are the best places to live in the Fort Lauderdale area for my wife and 5 month old daughter. Thank you |

Some additional info would be good. Where in South Florida are you working? Are you downtown in Fort Lauderdale or in one of the suburbs? How do you like sitting in traffic (ie how far are you willing to commute)?

Hi
My philosophy is : if you live in Florida don't burry yourself n some areas west of I95 Fort Lauderdale is a very nice place to be moderator cut: advertising Last edited by mawipafl; 05-13-2008 at 10:52 AM.. |

Weston is the best area for families. Great schools, upscales and lots of activities for families. I have lived in S. Florida for 30 years and 10 years in Weston. My kids (5 and 7) have made many friends though school, soccer, and the Y. It is also a reasonable commute to Boca, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.
We actually have to move, my wife was transferred to Ohio for her job. If you want a good deal on a house email me. (4/2.5, big lot in Eagle Point school area (1# elementary school in FLA in 2007). |

Don't forget Cooper City, Davie and many parts of Coral Springs and Pembroke Pines/ WEST Miramar. Zero in on the following innovation zones for schools- Stoneman Douglas, Cypress Bay/West Broward, Taravella, Cooper City, Everglades and Western. All of those districts are all fairly decent straight through K-12 and likely to stay that way. There also good elementary schools in Plantation and Sunrise, although it gets inconsistent after that. Good luck!

I've lived here for 35 years, so I know what's good and not. Weston is the best place, Parkland is second-best. But there are many other great cities too -- Plantation, Coral Springs. Just remember this -- you want to live WEST of University Drive. You live by that motto and you'll be just fine

I actually think Parkland is a little nicer than Weston for two reasons- they actually have trees and preserved nature there, and not every home looks like a clone of each other. Otherwise, pretty accurate. However I could never live there because that Boca/suburban Palm Beach County attitude is very prevalent in Parkland. I don't notice it as much here. Although you can tell most of the people out here are in the upper-middle income bracket I don't find people to be particularly rude, it's more typical of any other US suburb except you have that heavy South American influence here and quite a few other cultures which makes it interesting enough for me to stand it.
