Area around NW 17th street
I used to live on the 2600 block of NW 17th street, 40 years ago. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the neigborhood is like now.
Thanks,
Sabre

What is the make-up of the neighborhood? And what's the neighborhood called? I remember even as a little kid there where some sketchy people around? I got in my first knockdown, drag-out fight there and I was only 7 years old at the time.
Is the grammar school Ft. Lauderdale Manor still there, and Bradley Airport?
Thanks. It's been a long time.

I have only driven through that area (I just mapped it) and it is pretty rough looking. I think it's majority black nowadays. Lauderdale Manors Elementary is still around, and since it is 97% black I imagine that reflects the neighborhood's demographics.

Thanks for the replies.
Is Bradley Airport still there? It was a small private airport. I used to watch people skydiving from my back yard.

It's the area west of 95 between Sunrise Blvd and NW 19th St.
And Sabre, I don't know of an airport in the area besides the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport at Commercial Blvd and Powerline Rd.

Umm and he wants to move over there? I mean its not dangerous, at least not from my time spent over there. But most dont even own their homes. People rent them out to low income tenants. IF I were a brave man and up for a challenge i would move to progresso heights which is just down sunrise off of Andrews avenue. OR i would move to Franklin Park which is on the south side of Sunrise along I-95. it is still very low income HOWEVER, I have seen city of Fort Lauderdale's plans for that area. It is impressive indeed. You just have to have the patience and fortitude to stick through the transition period.
