According to a article in the Miami Herald more immigrants are leaving south florida. Wonder how that will play out in the population numbers for this year.

I read an article saying that immigrants will start moving to St. Lucie and Orange Counties in the future (as opposed to Broward/Palm Beach/Dade) due to lower housing costs.

I think this article is referring to illegal immigrants in Miami-Dade County, but I can't tell. All I CAN tell is that it's definitely referring mostly to Dade, although I'm sure a slowdown in immigration was responsible for our population loss last year (the population in Dade BOOMED). If it is referring exclusively to illegal immigrants it probably will not effect Broward too much because there are only 4 or so small illegal immigrant enclaves (Oakland Park, Broadview/Chula Vista, downtown Davie, a little pocket of Pompano/Margate).

there are some downtown fort lauderdale too. One street east of Andrews Ave. Also parts of sistrunk ave closer to Andrews. Hollywood, also off of Davie Blvd just west of I-95 there is a HUGE enclave. Not to far from melrose park. My wife said there are organizations that help the illegals in Broward. Because of her work she comes in contact with many of these groups. She said in Broward it seems to be Brazilians, Mexicans and Haitians as the main group.

The only sad part about the article is when the Brizilian girls go home. All the other news are good.

That's Broadview Park/Chula Vista which I already mentioned and by far the biggest enclave. Mostly an odd mix of Mexicans, US born blacks and left over good ol boys. I also went to some taqueria there and had one of the best in my life (that was the one I can't remember the name of). I was not aware of there being a cluster on Sistrunk, I do know however that there are a few Haitians that are here legally in that general area. Regardless, I'm still not sure if the article is referring to legal or illegal immigrants, but if it's referring to the latter, I say that this is a good thing...

And yes it is a good thing. I think we are going to see a HEAVY crack down on illegals and immigration period in the coming years. They are going to have to do something to combat all this inflation lol |

Peters Rd=Davie Blvd. Broadview between SR7 and the turnpike and Chula Vista is east to 95. Those areas have a Ft. Lauderdale address and to my knowledge are still unincorporated. South of Davie Rd/Peters=where the illegal immigrants live.

Ok, I think I know what your talking about. Okay so if I am headed east on Davie road toward I-95 is Chula Vista the area right after melrose park on your left? What is that area called on the right side of davie Road? Like behind that publix and all that.
P.S. that sistrunk area I was talking about is called "Progresso Village". It is where I took those pictures of those mexican looking houses downtown. (check the fort lauderdale pictures thread) |

Davie Blvd (I pick that out because Davie Rd runs through downtown DAVIE another mentioned area haha). Chula Vista is on the right side behind Publix, and the left side is Melrose. If you go deep enough into the right side like RIGHT off of 595 it becomes an upper middle class area called Riverland Village.
