Check out the Oakhill area in Davie too. Very down-to-earth acre homes built from anywhere in the 60's to the present with nice neighbors. The deals here are starting to look very interesting too - it's much less expensive than Plant Acres. It's just across 75 from Weston and south of 595 - follow 136 ave south from 595 and you'll hit it.

Isnt Oakhill off of 130th ? I believe it is. Or from 136th to get to Oakhill you have to make a left turn at 26th st and go east to 130th. It is not gated though I think the original writer is looking for gated communities.

Anybody care to throw out a comparison between these two communities?

Thanks in advance.

Weston is also a straight shot into downotwn and the airport - only in Plantation you will be closer. We live in Weston and our office is in Plantation. The developments you mentioned are lovely, particularly Hawkes Landing. For convenience and if you can afford it, Hawkes Landing is ideally situated.

At one point we contemplated selling our house in Weston and moving to the Oakhill area. It's very pretty there. What is pricing looking like for 5/3 on an acre, built after 1996? When we looked pricing was mid 600's.

I like that little slope and the mature oak trees they have in that area. Very scenic, looks more like Central Florida than south...

That's more Whispering Woods, which would be a lot more expensive. From 136th Ave, Oakhill would be west and south of 14th St.

Momma Bear, I've just been watching the bottom prices on acre homes there which are now beginning to go below $400K, which is what they were going for in mid-2004 when we were last looking. I did a quick search for newer homes and didn't come up with any other than those in the Whispering Wood/Emerald Isles area which are starting in the mid-$700s.

Haven't they been having burglaries in that area lately? I know they have on the east side of Flamingo. I'm not one of the nervous nellies that post around here, so I think it's something to consider. Might be a temporary thing, burglaries come and go anywhere.

Default Middle schools and High Schools

Weston has plantation if you are concerned with the schools your children go to! Both the Middle schools and high school are a better bet in Weston! Plantation might give you more house for your money! But hte way the house market is shop around you never know!

Actually, it might have been that Whispering Woods area where we looked. It was off of 130th. The houses were very nice, varied in size and were all on one acre of land. We were looking in '04 and prices were right around $600K.

We went on Indian Trace (14th St. in Davie) east past Western HS to where it ends at 130th and then south past that large gated community on the east side of 130th (I think that's Emerald Isles). It was just south of that. I could swear it had Oak something in its name. $700s is down quite a bit from where prices had been at the peak.

Yes, that sounds like Whispering Woods. Oakhill is a more general name for the overall area - there is no HOA, however the neighbors tend to look out for one another naturally.

If crime has increased either here or Whispering Woods, I'd look first to Western High - they're smack dab in the middle of the whole neighnorhood.
