The bottom line is that there shouldn't be this many reasons why people hate it here. Every city has issues and none are perfect, but I've never seen an area with this many negatives and so few positives. It's sad, because when I moved here 8 years ago, I loved it and thought I was going to retire here. Now, I've got 3 more days here and can't wait to leave. I was one of the lucky ones that was able to sell my home.

One thing I love about S FL is the shopping and the Publix's. Other than that, I can do without. So instead of everyone living here and complaining, why don't you all just find somewhere else to go? I'm hoping to move to NC in a couple of months.

Sometimes its not as easy as picking up and going. Sometimes people are "stuck" here for one reason or another. For the time being at least.

I think that it ( if you gonna hate ( or like ) here ) depends of which neighborhood do you live and how much money do you earn per month...if you live in a very good neighborhood and you have a good income you will ( probably - but maybe not ) like here, and if you live in a bad neighborhood and you have a low income you will ( also probably - but maybe not ) hate here... And South Florida has many problems, and many big cities have the same problems ( except the ( damn ) bad drivers...this just happens here )... |

Of all the reasons posted most of which are reasons I've hated it here (I've lived in 3 other suburbs along the east coast outside of Philly, Baltimore, & Charleston) I would have to say #1 is the rudeness of people(and that encompasses the rest of the reasons):
In other parts of the country people aren't constantly trying to show you they are better or trying to kill you with their SUV's. I've never felt like so many people want to kill me just because I exist. I'm a married, well educated, middle class, white female from up North, I've driven through/stayed/made friends in the real ghettos of Philly(places where I had to duck during drive by shootings) and never feared for my life as much as times in SFL. And this is from doing nice things....like letting someone in the lane in front of me, picking up an old ladies change purse that she dropped, smiling at the kid in the car in the lane next to me. I once got followed to work by a guy who was three lanes over and on the turn tried to get all the way into my lane and almost hit me! He followed me because I honked at him so that he would not hit me and this made him angry. I was 7 months pregnant and a homeless woman outside my work chased after me with a shopping cart calling me a rich girl in my scrubs(I'm not even a doctor). Grocery shopping is a nightmare. People leave their carts wherever all around the store and block the aisles...the number of times I've been hit with carts as well is ridiculous! Especially since it is usually in line. And seriously...what is up with the bagging down here!?! Are people not trained to carefully handle tomatoes, not smash bread and to keep cold goods away from boxed goods? The number of Latins who refuse to speak English(even though they can) makes me so angry!(don't get me wrong I have Latin friends who do speak English so this only applies to those who are "Too Good" to speak English.) I wanted to learn Spanish when I first moved here, but now I don't give a crap! We live in America - America's language is English! And if you are better than here then why are you here? If I moved to another country I would learn that language and not expect people to accomodate me in my native tongue. I think I could go on for hours...but I'll just sum it up to the highest level of rudeness I've ever experienced. |
