I love NYC, Paris, but definitely would pass on Mexico City. My largest problem with S. Florida is ironically, that I find it an incredibly boring, architecturally insipid and lacking in any feeling of community. The traffic, rude people and high unemployment are just bonuses. And, while I am at it, there are no intellectuals that would add a progressive tilt due to the lack of top schools in this area.

I don't entirely disagree, but the unemployment rate is actually below the national average, 6.5% local versus 6.8% national.

Tell that to someone who has been looking for a job for so long that they no longer show in the stats, or to someone who is now underemployed and working less hours. I believe if the stats took this into account, that unemployment levels in this area (and probably, nationally) are in the double digits. I believe the increased outflow of people from this area has been very high and somewhat reflects that the search for jobs has spread beyond the tri-county area. In addition, our high population of illegals who are hurting now certainly aren't counted in the statistics.

So "people looking for a job for so long that they no longer show in the stats, or someone who is underemployed and working less hours"...... that's unique to Florida? As if all other "greener pastures" with higher unemployment rates DON'T have the same problem?

You must not hang around the right places or with the right people.

South Florida, in particular, places like Palm Beach, have been magnets for intellectuals, jet-setters, writers, captains of industry, etc., who come for "season" and can be found at any number of cultural and charitable events.

And "progressive tilt"? Seriously, you actually find that South Florida lacks a "progressive tilt?"

hahahaha...I had to answer this one first...NO, I definitely do not hang out with the people who "season" in Palm Beach! That's hysterical...you think *they're* the intellectuals?! The intellectuals are found in college towns and cosmopolitan cities, along with those who would lend a "progressive tilt". Examples of such towns would include Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Austin, etc. You won't find he people who season in Palm Bech here you might find them in Aspen or Vail, however.

South Florida is a democratic bastion, but not so far as to be labeled progressive Think Hillary vs. Obama.

Check my post - I said probably, nationally. I do think it is more pronounced here due to the immigrant population, high employment in real estate, lawn care, construction and service in general.

I myself find Florida as a whole ill run many politicians, city/town officials from state attorney general, Mayors, etc IMO dont do their job and answer to no one ESP the citizens..
Most problems in this whole state have to do with it being ill run.

If they did this place could be incredible . Great beaches, nature ,warm all yr long which is great.

In the end they are re-elected any way thus no need to do anything.
For a state that can go either way Rep or Dem which is GREAT as no one takes it for granted .
MOST sure are loyal zombies to local do nothing politicians.

Political speeches don't count as actual action.

Florida is badly run corrupt and not just the do nothing bunch from up North ,South , East,West you name it some of the most do nothing "I dont care" politicians, city officials I have ever seen other than out side USA .

YES Miami-Dade is the head of the snake for UNREAL CORRUPTION now add do nothing to that .

I know also from family member who worked in law here for decades was initially court attorney but putting him aside and like you close to every person here who once worked in the system has told me horror stories.

Money missing yrly ,lack of accountability, etc speaks volumes.

My cousins husband is a Marshall recently moved to CO which he loves hopes never to return to this sewer of corruption.

I have friends who lived in NY with high standards as far as politicians After living here 6 months they expect corruption-accept it and re-elect it.

After 2 yrs here I am glad I refuse to . To bad because the potential this place has will never be remotely realized .

If your Hispanic you might know the joke about politicians here but will translate it for those who don't- I am not saying I agree with it just sharing the saying-

"In Miami there are 2 types of politicians .Those who are corrupt and those who are thinking of being corrupt"

Now if your Hispanic like I am and you want EVERY incumbent voted out for being total failures and a disgrace who offer nothing to S.Florida than your an uncle Tom.
If your not Hispanic and you want them gone for same reasons your a racist.
That is how well trained the lemmings here are .
