I prefer Miami to Broward too. If I have to deal with the same negatives, Miami has more positives IMHO.
Their school is specifically in the Pinecrest/S Miami area.
Not sure I want to advertise my kids school, but it is one of the 4 obvious private elem. choices around there.
Take a drive between Sunset Elem and Pinecrest Elem at 3 on any afternoon. You pass school after school, most of which are very good.
I've heard wonderful things about some of the other schools around there, but our specific experience has been GREAT.
PM me if you want their school but I think just finding the right fit for your family between the schools around there is 1 way to go.

I am not sure where this area is where your talking about. IF I remain in South Florida and could find a job in Miami, I know the area I would move into. Well its one of two places I really like down there. I think Miami has a LOT more going on for itself than Broward does.

Old Miami... The real Miami
I WISH Miami stayed the way it was in the 50's. Sure there were more bugs, and less A/C, but it was paradise. People were nice; it was still the American South. Picture Charleston, SC... with tropical weather.
Slippery slope: Mariel Boat Lift. This caused white flight, and plagued the streets with Cuban prisoners. Hispanic immigration has destroyed the beautiful city. Up until recently, I still had a secret beach to go to, and I will not disclose the location. All white people, OLD Florida types... but now the beach is being developed.
I guess I'll have to enjoy the beach with TWANGS of that music and constant YELLING of hispanics. Why are they so loud? Why do they have no respect for anyone?
The uneducated ones (not all hispanics, but most) are sub-human mongoloid buffoons.
Please Castro... die. Fix Cuba's gov't, make it nice again, and then they can all go back! and give Miami back!

I think even if Castro were to pass, Miami would be the same way it is. Many Cubans and other Latinos know Miami as home. Many were born here, and made Miami their home. The older generation that came years ago, many of them are in nursing homes cursing at Castro and WSVN in their hospital beds, counting the days.
I think we would see plenty of investors going and trying to turn the island back to what it was pre Castro (Still not good from what some told me. Lots of prostitution, poverty and a cesspool of crooks- gambling, drugs etc). It would be a tourist destination, but there would be plenty of issues between those who stayed and those who fled. Who owns what land? OH the issues, we'd hear from Cuba. (Those who stayed VS those who fled)
I think the recent refugees may want to go back. They realize Miami/USA is not the paradise their friends/relatives described to them, and want to go back home. I've heard of it before (true cases/facts).
They thought the grass was greener on the other side, come to find out...They see it's not always the case.

Try living in Hialeah for a few months and like me, you'll want to put a bullet in your head. Living in Hialeah was probably the worst experience of my life. Honestly, if I had to choose between living in Hialeah or killing myself, I'd kill myself (no BS!).
As it happens, we're planning to leave Miami....this place is just too much for me.

From a person that has lived in Miami and now in Broward. I will never ever live in Miami again.
We visit my in laws often in Miami and it is like night and day the difference. Miami just seems dark and dirty now to us.
Traffic is worse in Miami then Broward. It doesnt take as long to get around Broward as it does Miami.
I wouldnt trade places with anyone in Miami

My wife works in Hialeah and we find ourselves there often for both professional and social reasons. I absolutely hate the place.
I agree with other recent posters - Broward is better overall. But there are still decent places in Dade (i.e., Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Doral, Aventura, Miami Lakes), so you can't really lump everything together. It's kind of like when people give Detroit a bad rap - there are parts that send shivers down my spine, but I've also visited some very lovely parts in the outskirts where I could see myself happily living. Same with Miami.

I have a problem with the poll results classifications
If one is going to have a category labeled "Too Many Hispanics," can one then create another category for "Too Many Anglos," "Too Many Trailer Park People," etc.? It is glaringly insufficient to say "Please put other groups that one feels are too many in numbers under 'Too Many Hispanics.'"
Furthermore, I find it somewhat disconcerting that on a forum such as this with the diverse population in Florida and indeed in America that one is allowed, to begin with, to have such a classification. We are all entitled to personal feeligs about different religions, races, sexual orientations, etc. That is our personal right to feel what we wish within the confines of the law....but to so glaringly create a classification "Too Many Hispanics" leaves a sour taste, imho.
