You posted in March that you were moving here from Tampa. If you've been here for less than a month and can't find things to do in South Florida, I seriously recommend you buy a guidebook.

I don't hate Miami, I love it. I've lived in many places before, and I really do enjoy Miami. Some on here, might be super pessimistic, but I don't plan on leaving Miami.

Well my father has lived in Broward for 16 years...so I have seen the "morphing" of South Florida a bit. I live in North Miami Beach for 6 years. Now I'm back in PA (where I'm originally from). Here's is my take...
1) Rude People. OMG...South Floridians take the cake. I've never been to LA...but I've spent considerable time in NYC. In NYC people actually talk to you. Say hi, have a conversation, feel like a community, etc. But in Miami? Nope. The ONLY way I was able to put up with it is that I'm an Orthodox Jew; and the Jewish community in Miami is pretty tight.
2) Transportation/Driving. Well the reason why I left Miami is because I was hit head-on by a guy who drifted out of his lane because he wasn't paying attention. He sent me to Jackson Hospital for a week and a half (I was there when Sean Taylor was brought in) and a rehab hospital for another two weeks. I did not go crazy over driving around South Florida...but I love to drive. I can understand how and why it is nervewrecking though. A few times my car was getting some work done to it and instead of opting for a rental, I would use public transit. That was like going for a root canal. Public transportation in Miami is useless; USELESS! It lengthened my commute by 80 min roundtrip. And the bus drivers drive like the should have never even earned their CDL to begin with. Understandable...since they hardly get paid anything...
3) Working - People do NOT get paid what they are worth in Miami. How in the world can you offer $10.50/hr to office workers who live in a place where you would be hard pressed to find a one-bedroom apartment for less than $800/month or a single family home for less than $200,000? Seriously, how does that work out? I made quite a bit more than that, but most of my co-workers were struggling...and they lived with other people. I was frugal on food and clothes though (I would shop in a thrift store in a minute)...but I also don't have kids. My father makes about $70K but is still screwed if something major comes up. His mortgage is $2,200/month and he has child support and daycare to pay. Not to mention all the other stuff. And his home in FL offers him less space than my home up here (since I have a basement and attic here for storage...he just has a garage really). Also people aren't educated, they don't care, aren't professional/have no work ethic. It's just crazy!
4) Culture/Arts Pittsburgh has more culture in its little finger than all of South Florida combined! The city does not have a major symphony orchestra (The Florida Philharmonic folded the year after I moved there and the New World Symphony is affiliated with a conservatory...it is not a true metropolitan orchestra). There are few "community cultural" events (Pittsburgh has movies in the park, the Victorian Festival, neighborhood block parties for artists, etc.). The zoo and similar family attractions (yes Monkey Jungle...I mean YOU) are a JOKE.
5) Insularity So many immigrants to South Florida or natives have this fear of venturing north of Orlando. I don't get this. Especially with the immigrants. Why are you living with 9 people in a 2 bedroom crap rental in Hialeah when you can buy an entire house in Detroit for $30K? Culture is one thing...but to live like you never left the third world? That is not the "American Dream" my dear. So get out. Funnel yourselves upward and out into places where you can really make a life for yourselves. Miami is looking like Mexico City in some places...and the politicians could care less...
I went back to Miami 3 weeks ago though and loved it. Because I had money in my pocket and I knew I wasn't "trapped" there. I still feel that Southeast FL is beautiful...just stunning. But I would rather deal with the retirees and snobs up in Boca; if I had to do it again. Of course for the right amount of compensation...I could make Miami work out for me (hey, it's my kinda town ultimately), but it would need to be a nice chunk of change. Other than that the state of FL is big; I could get nice weather in a lot of other places!

This is the same with S. Texas. I remember having a keg party for Halloween and everybody was freezing. Nothing that alcohol could not handle.
Now, you don't have to wear a sweater at that time.

Rude people - S FL takes the cake huh? No way. It's all subjective. I find that everyone is rude no matter where you go. And even though "rude people" is leading the poll, they are probably all lying.

i lived in west palm bch - it's close enough. and my wife was born in hollyhood - and her family is ALL from miami. i know enough.
personal views/opinions matter - 99 votes for rude people lead the way. and FTL is tame compared to Miami. where there is smoke, there's fire. all 99 people arent lying. and there are hundreds of thousands that would also agree.

yeah but if you add the others, they are higher than 99, even "I don't hate it here" is not that far from the rude people
Thank you for just coming to Broward board and not the Miami to bash S. Florida. We have a share of people who never lived in Miami that just go there to bash it and claim they are experts in the area when they have no idea what they are talking about.
