Hey, folks.
I've been reading the threads here and the consensus seems to be that living East of US-1 is the way to go if you want a safe place. Here are my problems. 1. We're not looking to stay in FTL forever. I'm in a 2-year Master's Degree program at FAU and when that's done, we're likely moving elsewhere for my work. 2. My wife is pregnant and is due on January 23rd. How are the hospitals/healthcare in the FTL area? 3. I have a 70 lb. Retriever/Lab mix and I'm having a hell of a time finding a place that takes dogs. Any suggestions, short of sending my dog to live with my mom? 4. We're considering places in the Nurmi Isles area and (although it's West of US-1, River Landings, just south of Wilton Manors). Any advice there? Thanks for any input ![]() |

Yes the dog will be a problem I couldn't take any of the places I wanted down there because of my two BIRDS who weight 30 grams each LOL.
I don't remember where the school is but there is a decent apartment complex on water in the north part of FLL. right across from a hospital.Check out Port Royale Apts up by 65th and Fed... I dont know the weight restrictions on dogs and some of these places say pet friendly but they mean one cat lol. I'd get on Realtor dot com and call on the houses that you see. They are reasonable now and link over to realtors, some realtors will help you. A private homeowner will permit the dog whereas a condo HOA will be a pain. My son rents a house and has a Great Dane (but he's in WPB). Also in Tamarac (a close safe suburb) there are these small developments called Mainlands (about 17 of them or so) ...some are 55+ some are not. Up in Mainlands 10 and above (also in 9) it's all ages and there is a hosp right there, on University above Commercial. The houses are cute and there is shopping nearby and the commute is about 20 minutes or so downtown. It's a little more crowded than a couple years ago but fine for a temp stint. Probably a realtor can find houses near the school, I just don't know where it is. |

BTW, a realtor will enter your requirements into the mls and send you emails of lists to consider. The mls that I saw always lists the weight requirements on dogs by categories like under 20 lbs, under 50 lbs no limit etc... but double check them all just to be safe.
