So much for Coconut Creek - lol
I know a bunch of families that live in a "subdivision" in North Creek (don't know if we're allowed to say the name) near Winston Park area. They said there have been a few breakins (home and car) in the last couple weeks. Right in the middle of the day too (between 1 and 4). They pop the locks on the back doors of the homes and go inside and steal money, electronics (smaller ones - games systems, Ipods, etc).
Wow.

OK, so where are you going to move to? Burglars don't typically strike at night, that is a myth. 1 in the afternoon is prime time for professionals. Did anyone in the neighborhood bother to contact their local police and/or the city? It happens all the time, everywhere, it's just that in low crime areas people tend not to realize it unless it's on their block. Low crime is not no crime, there is no such place.

I must agree. People can't be that naive, or can they? We must accept that it's everywhere. It may be more common in certain areas than others, but it's all over. These types of break-ins always strike me as local neighborhood kids doing them. I may be wrong, but I cannot stand the naive attitude when some people think their areas will never be victims of such incidents (Or the false sense of security being in a gated neighborhood, when they tend to be hit the most). Why do people get paranoid after break-ins, and not vigilant before them? Please, we are living in America . Show me a place where this has never happened in this country, and I will pack my bags and leave NOW!! At that rate, I will take the OP with me free of charge . I stated about an incident in another post about my neighbor reporting her laptop being stolen. You ask; Where was this laptop? On the passenger seat of her car, no tints, not even under the seat, in broad daylight. I was there when she called to report the incident. She was worried, and stating she would move as soon as she could (and how the neighborhood was going down, blah, blah, blah). I had to tell her, no matter where you go, with a naive attitude, thinking you can leave your doors unlocked (be it car or home) it's going to happen. Even in the woods, A Bear might break in for some honey ..Let's be real people....Be vigilant and less naive.
By the way, that neighbor still lives here, she's just more vigilant...

of course you should be allowed to say the name. NOT saying it, you are doing a great injustice to others that are contemplating living in the subdivision. You shoud alway speak your mind...people depend on unbiased and honest opinions. That's the whole idea behind a forum

I have a long lost uncle that lives deep in the Poconos in PA, and they actually have "burglar bears" there! He had a bear break in, raid the kitchen and steal his little TV! Bears are evil thieves who will steal ANYTHING they see. He found his TV wrecked in the woods a day later.

I grew up in NYC with Schalge locks on the door and generally raised very "street-smart". In fact, it was a standing joke - when I went out, I was always given "money for the muggers". After 27 years of living there, I was never robbed, mugged or even threatened.
Within 6 months of living in an apartment on Collins Ave on Miami Beach, my apartment was broken into and I lost every good piece of jewelry that had ever been given to me, along with an original signed and dedicated Cathy cartoon strip with Cathy Guisewite's signature and a leather jacket I adored.
I later learned that there were maids who worked in the building who had "master keys" and robbery was common. It was a rude awakening that no matter how nice a place looks, your stuff is vulnerable. Also made me sour on South Florida, but I stayed anyway (I fell in love during this time and later married, had kids, yada, yada, yada), but I ironically feel much more vulnerable to crime here than I ever did in NYC.

News - Deputy shoots Tahoe burglar bear - sacbee.com
Apparently it's quite common! Just look up "burglar bear" on google. I even remember it happening a couple of times around Orlando a WHILE back around Wekiva Springs. So in Orlando, you have to deal with human burglars AND bear burglars AND palmetto bugs .
