Then very simply, there is no hope. Sorry to be so blunt, but magical thinking won't help. A lot of very decent and religious people have lost their homes in this last go 'round. Nowhere in the Bible is there a guarantee of an owned home or a car.
Exactly, nobody can help you if you dont help yourself. New cars and houses are for people that can afford them, if you can not afford them then rent and take public transportation. But nobody will feel sorry for you if can not make sacrifices.

Her church and many other black churches usually don't speak on economic responsibility like that, they believe that if you want it, buy it and believe in the lord and she did that alright.
That'll be a big relief yes, the car payment done. Well, at least she has faith and support in the church community. Some other people are totally lost and bitter.

She also seems to have raised a great son, not all people should be judged on just their financial accomplishments.

I give you props for perseverance and staying on the straight and narrow, just don't give up and try to get some good career advise along the way like you've been doing. It's tricky now a days to know what careers will hold up. Except the medical field will probably be very strong for along time.

Yeah but wait...(he didn't say his car was new he has a payment...it could be an older car...and for 189 it probably is it's mom who had the big note)

...if he's going to go to school AND work I think the time wasted on buses and standing around isn't practical. When you're doing two full time schedules you don't have an extra fifty minutes to wait if you miss a bus. That's two hours he could be working not standing for a bus.... AND the Sickle cell thing, standing outside? And its not like he can control his mom...you don't mess with a mom especially a stong black woman mom! Just like Kathy Griffin says on Bravo
(but I do agree the insurance is way too much...)

8.00 you put up with alot from us and all our opinions good luck to you and mom, take care.

Regardless if the car is new or used, he is obviously in a car payment he can not afford, especially with all the debt he has incurred. I know taking the bus is not the best, I did it all throughout college to get to school and work (and yes it was slow and you had to leave early but it worked), but I made the sacrifice because i knew owning a car would not be wise for me economically. I learned a long time ago that life is rough and tough and you have to be willing to make extreme sacrifices to get somewhere. If you know you can do better in another state or city then do all that is in your power to move, if you can not afford to buy something then dont buy it and save your money. Your future is in your hands and only you can get yourself out of this jam.

The thalessemia is no picnic either. You have like zero energy. Btw, as I'm sure you know, it is really rare to have both....with a doctor who is familiar with the combo, you might get some more help proving your case that this is not just simple sickle cell. I'd hate for you to wait till when the time may come when you really need it to then have to begin the process again and have to wait for benefits.

That's wonderful you were helped. Is there a way you might still have phone numbers, addresses of people connected with Workforce 1 that could help you in getting a position in your field? I never seen such a crazy job market. Gezzz Louiszzz one of the jobs my son was going for was at US Sugar in Clewiston. Good thing he didn't pursue it. There ain't no more US Sugar. I sent him the clipping about the closing, he couldn't believe it. I'd still go to the nearest Vocational School and ask for advice on what to do. That is a dirty rotten shame the school closed and really left you and I'm sure others just hangin. Even though there not affiliated with PC Professor they might shed some light on your problem.

Just came across this thread after being out of pocket since Saturday ... don't have a lot to add because you've already gotten a lot of good advice, but thought I'd pass it along for what it's worth: Kohl's, the retailer, is expanding into South Florida and adding 900 jobs throughout the region. It's a good, solid company, a little more upscale than Wal-Mart, with a history of promoting from within. Seems like there's some opportunity there. Good luck ... my prayers are with you!

That's good news also because the Kohl's in PA offers overnight and off shift jobs for stocking. (like early bird starting at 4 or 5 am)....

8.00 per hour is on a distinguished road
Thanks for all the advice, the job I'm working at now is currently on a 2 week, 60 to 70 hour a week schedule, so I will assume for a couple weeks I should bring home close or a bit over $1000.00 a week. I can save a bit of this money and use it for something good like, putting down for a small place, roomate, try to pay off a credit card or just put down as much as I can to get rid of the car payment.

BTW, my car is a 2002 Maxima that I got from a fellow for $6000, it drives great.

My old car would have costed me about 3000 to fix (95 maxima).

The bad part is that I had no money to put down on the 02, I had to credit everything through a bank, I pay them $250 a month even though the payment is $186.

So life goes on, I will continue to fight and look for answers to issues.

I also got $300 bucks today from a incentive site that I completed, I'm thinking about using that to pay off ExxonMobil but I don't know whether it's smart or not since I don't use the card at all and the interest dropped alot from the higher balance.

Awesome check. Maybe other counties are looking for help before the election if this job is over soon?

I know you're dying to get your own place but really...I wouldn't. Not until you're debt free from the credit cards at least. Once you have a place you're going to have to spend everything on that....

Yeah, you're right pay off the credit cards with the highest interest first.

I'm guessing the emergency one is the highest interest rate, get rid of that first if it is. Especially since it's for emergencies. This is the advise that Suze Orman gives on TV and she knows her stuff

You can watch her on CNBC every night. I think they might be reruns I havent watched lately. On Saturday nights the shows are new and she takes calls from people who want to know if they can afford all kinds of stuff. It's pretty funny how she yells at them "you cant afford it, denied". Even for people with money problems, although the callers usually have good jobs it's encouraging to see how many "rich" people make such stupid mistakes with money. Like being in debt for 50000 credit card and being broke with barely any income. She's good to watch for a pep talk too. Sometimes people call in and were in really terrible shape and tell how they fixed it.
