That's not true, I see something on the news fairly regularly (not necessarily against "low class" people), and yet almost never in Davie.

As far as racism goes, many crimes are commited by African Americans unfortunately here in South Florida. Yes, hispanics and whites carry out crimes as well, but it seems that everytime you turn on the TV....a black man has commited a crime. Because of that, many people here when they see a black person, their guard automatically goes up and they start thinking bad thoughts. I don't care where you live in South Florida, you will experience some type of discrimination because of the color of your skin. Again, people don't do it on purpose, it's just what they have been conditioned to feel and believe by everything they see on the news every night.

To clarify what he said, Not that a group commits more crime than another, it's simply that one group gets more press coverage for these crimes. Trying to help you not put your foot in your mouth, (You may offend some people here, but I understand what you're saying.. )
Back to the subject.
There seems to be more apartment rentals on Pines Blvd if that's what you are looking for. I was just checking something for a colleague from Orlando, inquiring about prices for an apt on West Pines Blvd (Windsor on Pines, close to I-75 IIRC). For a two bedroom, you're looking at $1395-$1500 (Depending on where you lived, you may not be impressed). There are plenty of shopping areas, a decent mix of people, traffic, and you're near I-75 (which takes you to 595/826/Turnpike South, depending on direction).
Davie/Cooper City. There are pockets that you may like, and some that are not worth mentioning. They all really run into each other. Nothing charming or unique about the three. For the most part, west of University Drive, things are better maintained, you have newer construction, plazas, movie theatres, and a more "affluent" group of people...
Racism? Where do we live again? Just be careful, and aware of your surroundings..This is America my friend...Nowhere is immune to racism and discrimination. Someone did say to stay away from many black neighborhoods, take that advice. There aren't any like, say Atlanta, MD/DC where you see black intellectuals/professionals clustered in affluent/exclusive areas....It's really about money vs race when it comes to zip codes down here.

IMO, stay out of any "racially defined" neighborhood, because many you find in this area are going to be very insular. There are plenty of "black" neighborhoods, "white" neighborhoods etc but I would say there are more neighborhoods that aren't than are. It's relatively integrated racially with a definite class trust issue.

What's so bad about that neighborhood? We looked at some houses off 130th and they were beautiful, the houses were all on at least an acre. There is also a large gated community in that area.
There is one trailer park just off the highway but it's just about brand new and not bad at all. I can't see anything in that area that you would call a bad neighborhood.

There are actually a few. Most of them are how you describe, however ONE of them is very unkempt but extremely SLEEPY and not much to be afraid of.

Of all the really bad places in Broward would you seriously warn someone about living between 136th and 124th in Davie? Today I drove from Ft. Lauderdale to Plantation and I drove through the area between Andrews and 441. Can you even compare the two areas? Even at noon I wasn't entirely comfortable around there.

Bandit
My rating: Pembroke Pines: B, Cooper City: A, Davie: C, Weston: A-
Momma Bear Was right on Target
I was born and raized in Mass.,moving all over the New England area. We lost our 3rd home to Hurricane Andrew after 37 years in Dade. We have visited 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Traveled to Mexico and Italy.I am now retired after living in Pembroke Pines for 15 years.
We have continued to live in Pembroke Pines after travel to many other areas that we considered for retirement, as we (to date) have not found with a better all around enviorment anywhere else we have been .
This is not to say it is perfect, but much better than most. Surprisingly the very mixed racial, ethnic, religous, divisons here seem to coexist well as can be expected.
My insite is from working 42 years in public service in Miami-Dade County. This area has survived Hurricanes, droughts, high tempertures, extensive migration, mixed linquistal and complex social problems much to it's credit. There iare no Poll, State Income, or
Estate taxes. No expense to heat or by winter clothes.
Who could ask for more?

Thats the higher end of Davie. It gets newer and better out west. East of downtown Davie is another story, but its more middle class area west of Davie road.

That area of Davie is very nice. There are quite a few nice developments in West Davie.
