Sunset Springs, Weston
We lived in Sunset Springs a few years ago and really liked it. The area was gated and quiet and the Royal Palm trees along the main street were lovely. The houses are close together, but it seems they all are. The subdivision was close to everything, especially the new town center.
We didn't have kids in school, so I can't say anything about the school. My only complaint about the subdivision was that they didn't keep the tennis courts in good condition. They may have been redone by now.
For your needs, it seems better - mostly because, altho it's 30 to 40 minutes with no traffic from Weston to Hollywood, there will be a lot of traffic for your husband. He'll catch it going east (w/ those who work in Fort Laud) and then going south to Hollywood (for those who work in Miami). The commute would easily stretch over an hour. From Cooper City, it would be 20-25 minutes with no traffic and much shorter mileage. From Monterra, at the eastern edge of Cooper City, even closer and probably only 15-20 minutes. You'd also be close to the beach.
Monterra is very nice - across from a Target, a Publix & and a Home Depot. It opened for sale at the beginning of the real estate bust. Their sales recently picked up when they dramatically lowered prices.
Dear fauve,
You really got me thinking about Cooper City and I will visit it in January. I did research Pioneer middle and it does look good from the reviews stand point. But what about high school? I can't seem to find much info about it - is it good? What is the percentage of graduates that are going to the universities? Any info will be appreciated!
And about Monterra - I called them and left a voicemail. I wonder how long it takes for them to actually build is a house should we decide to move there...
Are there any decent apartment complexes or nice condo complexes/gated communites around Cooper City?

Thank you - do they have a website that I can look at?
There are not new houses at Sunset Springs. There is awebsite for the homeowners association, but I believe it does not provide information about houses that are for sale.
I forgot how long it takes them to build a house at Monterra... probably 4 to 6 months. The price in the website is the "starting price" so if you make any changes upgrading the kitchen cabinets, type of floors, size and location of the lot, etc the price goes up.

Cooper City High School has an excellent reputation - certainly comparable to the Weston high schools. Cooper City High School
Usually it takes at least 6 months to build a house but that may be shorter now that there isnt as much building going on.
I just moved in to a house I purchased in the Monterra development. I signed a contract in May, they broke ground in July, and I closed last week. The process was very smooth and the developers were great throughout. I highly recommend that you stop by their sales office. It's pretty remarkable how many lots they've been able to sell in this housing market.

did you have to use their lender of choice for the mortgage? Did you use your own agent? Do you like the grounds and amenities?
There are people that disagree with you..We live in Palm Beach County in Boca and I will tell you MY son in regular classes is doing the SAME work as our friends in top schools in NJ both ..With that being said, Our School also has a high number of kids that were accepted into some of the best ivy league schools as well as UF and a few others...and the fact that we know kids in some of the "top private" schools it isnt all that and that is coming from some of the parents as well as the kids..funny thing is we also have alot of freshmans that came in from Pine Crest into our school and after speaking with their parents they felt why should they pay for an education when their child can attend our HS and take the same AP or Honor Classes even the Regular Classes...so I think it depends on the School and I dont think EVERY school in florida is awful and as our son went to school in NJ up until 7th grade...yes I know we are discussing Broward but Im just putting my 2 cents in...lol It was quiet interesting when we were at a swim meet at Pine Crest in Ft Lauderdale listening to the Team they were swimming against was Heriatage in Plantation and omg after hearing what some of us heard my child wouldnt be attending it for HS...but that is my opinion..I just dont think in all and all that any of us should tell people this is awful that is awful because at the end of the day My child isnt yours and yours isnt mine and not always what works or what makes someone happy will or will not make the next person happy...I have high standards for my children and we are very happy...
I'm guessing you're talking about Spanish River, which happens to be probably the second best public high school in Florida. Most South Florida schools aren't nearly as good. (full disclaimer, I went to Pine Crest)
I live in Pembroke Pines and we are moving to Weston. My son was on private school (Montessori) until KG............I was so against public schools .........but my son was not accepted at St. Mark (private catholic) for 1st grade. So I registered him at Silver Palms... My son is now in 3rd grade and he is extremely happy!! The program, the infrastructure, the teachers...everything!! Almost all of my friends had their children in private schools and literally now we are thinking on moving to Weston because of the schools (middle). I do not know what to do!!! Please help. Tuition I know it is a variable ..........but in our case we are really happy with the public schools system, on private schools there are not the tools like web pages (First in Math just to mention one) that are in public..... But I am super scared of all what people say about middle public schools. I born in another country where public schools are not an option. I just know elementary.... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I need to know more about middle schools at Weston (falcon or Tequesta) I heard falcon is newer but almost the double of kids vs. Tequesta. Why there are so many drastic comments...from great school.........to"" i will never put my kids on public not even at weston??" I am afraid to switch my kids to private when in my opinion academically you have no way to rate them. The data is not public so it is hard to know exactly how to rate a private in ppines-weston. Please please I am so confuse and I am literally spending my weekends looking houses at Weston.........
My first language is not English so please I apologize if my grammar is not the best. But I am so confused!! and I need advise please please
