I am looking at going back to school in the Spring. I live in Plantation so I want to go to school near home. I am looking into FAU and Nova at the Davie campuses. Does anyone have any input?? I am going to be persuing a degree in Education. Thanks for your help!

FAU is a fraction of the cost of Nova...

I won't lie, I did notice that, but is it 1/2 the cost for a reason? Is Nova a better school, worth the funds, or is FAU just as good?

Just as good. The price differential is public vs. private. Nova does offer a popular master's and doctorate in educational administration should you decide later to go that route. For undergrad in education I wouldn't pay more than necessary.

What are you looking to major in? Check out the school ratings and see what they rank in relation to the program your interested in.

I believe for a relatively low-paying career it doesnt make sense to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars for the education. Nova is not known for its generous financial aid and it is a 4th tier school. It's not even among Princeton Review's Best 368 Colleges. Neither is FAU, but at least you're not paying a premium and likely incurring additional debt. Many teachers around here have their degrees from FAU and FIU. |

Geeze, it maybe low paying, but it doesn't mean I am not excited about it, nor that I don't want to get a good education to be good at it....but I see your point, I do not want to over extend myself in student debt either.... |

I am a student at FAU majoring in music education. I live in Weston. I really like FAU's education program. My music classes are all given on the Boca campus but the Education classes are offered in both locations giving me lots of flexibility in my schedule.
I do think that you have to consider cost when you want to go into education. It is a fine, honorable field, but it doesn't pay a whole lot of money. Both the Nova and the FAU degrees will end with a BA in education and FL teacher certification. You will pay a whole lot less for the same degree and certification at FAU. |

Depending on your specialization you can get your debt forgiven (critical shortage areas) or working in bad schools. At least thats how it used to be. With this economy, i dont know if it is still that way or not.
