good Broward areas near Miami?
Hi all,
I grew up in Miami and moved away to Memphis, TN (yikes) for school. We are thinking of coming back to South FL since we are expecting a baby and want to be close to family. The thing is that we don't really want to move back to Miami itself, but my husband will be working in the Hialeah area so we don't want to live so far north that it's a ridiculous commute each day. I am not familiar with Broward at all actually-sad after living here for 20+ years-but we don't speak Spanish and also are not millionaires so living in Miami is not going to work. Does anyone have any suggestions for areas that would be good to live in for a young family? I just want it to be safe, clean, nice people, etc. We will probably have to rent a house for a while to get our bearings.
Thanks!

Pembroke Pines around I-75 and Pines Blvd or Sheridan Street area in my opinion would be perfect.... Good safe area, very clean and safe. You have the Pembroke Lakes Mall, many strip malls, good resaurants, good schools and yes nice people.
For your husbands commute to Hialeah it would be South on I-75 onto the 826 (palmetto x-way) and you're there. Probably a 20-30 minute commute depending where in Hialeah he works.

I would recommend west Miramar, Pembroke Pines or Weston. In terms of best to worst, they go in the opposite order of what's been listed. All are fine areas, however, and will be preferable to Hialeah for you.

We loved living in East Hollywood. There are so many parks and the beach near by, many activities for the kids, and the Hollywood Lakes neighborhood was as safe it could be given that this is South Florida anyway. If you are choosing public schools, though, then I would recommend Pembroke Pines. It is a very nice, clean, peaceful area and the public schools are overall better than in Hollywood, especially the charter school.

stay away from west miramar unless you are going to be living in SUNSET LAKES ( West of 186 ave ). Trust me on this ! Pembroke pines is the best bet.

Why not also check out Cooper City. My husband commutes to Hialeah daily. Many types of homes with nice sized yards. Great schools, too. Less traffic than Pembroke Pines.

Hialeah is not a good place for you to live. Besides not being a nice area, virtually everyone speaks Spanish and even in the stores they will not understand what you want to buy. My husband's company is there and he tried to buy Bagels from the Publix. Guess what, no one understood the word bagel!!! Truck drivers used to stop at his place of business and ask for directions, so the receptionist would call my dh and he would give them the English directions. Many, many of these drivers said, "Doesn't anyone around here speak English?"
Go north at least as far as Pembroke Pines. I strongly recommend you learn Spanish. Life in So. FL without Spanish is frought with problems. For one thing, you never know what they are saying about you!
