Pompano is a dump and it even used to be one of the worst in the country and every minute it seems like they are robbing some convenience store or CVS there, but realistically, your chances are much higher of getting into a car accident and dying than getting murdered even in places three times worse than Pompano. There is no reason to even go to most of Pompano let alone live there but you always put your life in jeopardy as soon as you step outside your home, even if it's in the rural areas of North Dakota. Heck, you could even die inside of your home. Your house could go on fire.

I've never strayed from A1A and it's just passing through on my way up to West Palm. I'd never stop anywhere for gas or anything...
Even AIA just south of and completely north of Atlantic is disgusting. |

I agree - stay away from Pompano. My church is in Pompano, and I find the whole place very creepy. Almost every other house is for sale or for rent. That tells you something!

I used to defend Pompano, but no more. One of the problems is that the same people who ran the city more than 20 years ago still wield most of the power. They've found their comfort zone and aren't willing to change. Sadly, the populace seems disinclined to demand anything better, and so it goes -- the cycle of mediocrity continues.
I've always thought the downtown strip along Atlantic Boulevard to the beach had tremendous potential, but absolutely NOTHING has been done to redevelop it (beyond building a few overpriced high-rise condos near A1A). I last visited the beach a few months ago and it was full of trash and cigarette butts -- not a pretty picture during tourist season, and not a favorable comparison to the nearby beaches in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and Deerfield. Drive along the main thoroughfares like Atlantic and Federal and it's scary how many vacant storefronts there are (and this was the case even when the economy was humming). It really bothers my wife because she spent most of her childhood in Pompano. On the other hand, she knows how the city operates and isn't surprised. |

I can't even defend Pompano lol. They put themselves in their own death bed. It's the Lake Worth of Broward except Pompano couldn't even bring in Central American immigrants to at least fill the thinning neighborhoods. It's just shrinking.

Hi,
I lived in Fort Lauderdale for 5 years and after I got married, I moved to Pompano Bch. I like were I live. US1 and McNab rd. It is very convinient to me as well. My child's school (which is an awesome elementary school), the grocery store, the bank, the post-office, are all walking distance. The traffic can be annoying for some people but, because I come from a city that to commute from A to B takes at least 2 hours at any time of the day, I think this is paradise. The only problem is that South Florida is getting expensive and a bit dangerous. Even the hurricane season is not bad. 2005 season was the only really bad one in years. The weather is pleasant from late october until first week of may. From may to october, expect very hot, very, I mean VERY humid, rainy summer. I don't really go to Pompano Beach area itself ( which is 5 minutes by car from my home) because I don't like the fact that we can't have umbrelas opened if we want to be close to the shore, so I go mostly to Ft. Lauderdale beach, which takes 15 minutes driving. I don't really have problems to commute at all because as I said, everything is so close to my house. I wouldn't recommend to live too much west of US1 or in between Dixie Hwy. and I-95. |

I've owned a waterfront home in Pompano for 16 years and the neighborhood is beautiful! Anyone considering any area really should come and see for yourself!
