It was called The Oakland Park Skating Arena.

Use to hang out there in the 60's.

It is a Goodwill store now.

Would that theatre be the Mercedes, run by Mitch Drier? Four screen, IIRC?

I'm only 27 so I don't know what you guys are talking about. But I'm pretty sure the skating rink someone mentioned "Gold Coast" is still there. I'm referring to the one on US1 near SR-84. There is some sort of skating rink there. Never been there myself. Skating rinks pretty much went out of style by 1990. I used to go when I was a little kid in the 80's.

Wow, what was Ft. Lauderdale/Broward like in the 60's & 70's? I was born in the late 70's(Holy cross Hosp.) and lived in the same house in Plantation(by Helen B. Hoffman Plant. Library) until I was 20. I've seen so much change that this place feels unrecognizable from how it was. I love these nostalgia threads!

Anyone remember Sears Town on Sunrise & Federal Hwy? Remember in that plaza a place called Paul's Magic Shop(?), they sold gag gifts, ect? Remember how country-western Davie was, all down Orange & Griffin was orange groves.

I was born in 1952 at Broward General.

Use to go to that sears when I was but a wee thing!
It was always a thrill, riding up the escalator to go sit in Santas lap.
There was also a clown that would walk around, giving out helium balloons!

Paul Diamond was the owner of Paul's magic shop.

I use to stop in there everyday on my way home from school. (Northside Elementary)

Paul showed me my very first magic trick!

I stood as a kid and watched them build the New River Tunnel. (Called something else now?)

Anyone remember Old Ft. Lauderdale High?

It sat where the big bank is now on the corner of Broward and 4th ave.

Yep .. I go Way Back and I have stories .. Boy do I have stories!

Heck, I can remember when it wasn't legal to erect a building taller than three stories high downtown!
