I think all of Harry's concerns are legit, except the part about teachers' unions and teachers salaries which I highly disagree with. But the rest of his concerns are legit. But I also agree with Mister NY that these problems are not unique to FL, and they are highly prevalent in NY as well. So if NY has all of those problems too, and their education system is far superior to FL, there must be something else at play here. NY also has teachers unions FYI, and their teachers get paid more money than FL teachers, so that argument doesn't hold water. The biggest difference is funding. That's the one thing that jumps out that separates the two.
Also, I would point out that there is more of an emphasis on good education in NY than in FL. The FL government is similar to Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas, 3 states that don't care too much about having superior education systems. They would rather cut funding for education and keep their populous dumbed down. They just don't care as much, and its that simple. In FL we have another problem and that is the large number of retirees. They don't want to pay for education because they could care less about the younger generations. They'd rather the money go towards things that benefit them like Medicare and Social Security. By-in-large, they have a negative attitude towards young people and feel that they are up the creek without a paddle.
