Default Any advice, think I really need it!

Ok, here is the deal...I am a 29 yr old single male living in Philadelphia. I am a Hearing Specialist and have an opportunity to open a Hearing Aid store in Coconut Creek. I have a great life in PA but welcome change! I have always loved Fl and am seriously considering this move.

This Friday I am coming down to check out Coconut Creek and the surrounding areas to get an idea of the area and where to live.

Unfortunately, no one on here can really tell me what's going to happen and if I'll like, love or hate it. But, any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! I want to make the few days im down there really count. So, if you can share any ideas of a good place to live with a somewhat short commute. Somewhere safe

So I guess what would be useful, is if someone could help with the following:

Useful things for me to do to get familiar with an area in 3 days or less.

Suggestions on a place to live that is safe, nice, short commute from CC and a good nightlife.

Some of the areas I came up with researching on here and talking with other members are:
Coral Springs
Coconut Creek
Pompano Beach(east of 95, I think?)
Delray Beach
Don't know much about them but sound nice.

Sorry about the ranting looong thread!!!

Joe

Delray would be my first choice, too, but if you are opening a store in Coconut Creek, you may want a place a little closer in the beginning, as you may be pretty much living at work. There are some nice condos near Pompano Park (harness racing) that allow renters. I don't think they would be too high. It's close to a semi-crummy area, but has security. Ditto with Palm Aire across the street- old Florida, bigger rooms.

Or cruise down to A1A in Pompano and check it out- lots of condos, which wouldn't be a bad place to be- security, no outside maintenance, you can walk along the beach when you get off of work or before work.

I'm thinkin' that if you are just moving to Florida, why not be near the beach vs. Coral Springs or something. Even if just for that first year. By then you will have your bearings and know where you want to settle in. Nothing nicer than waking up on the 15th floor overlooking the ocean every morning! There are lower-rise buldings, too.

I have a long-time friend who is a Realtor in NE Broward for years. She would be good to check with about rentals around the beach area, as she sells condos. She would know which buildings allow renters and may even have sold some to investors looking to rent. PM me if you would like her name.

For a young single male, I would suggest staying east of I-95. All the cool nightlife, bars and clubs are east of I-95. Coral Springs is a nice place if you are married, have kids or retired, not great for ones social life as it is far from the nightlife on the beaches or Las Olas. Also both Delray and CS, will be a little bit of a commute to Coconut Creek.

Take a look at Goodle maps http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8...l=en&tab=wl&q=

Take a look around Pompano and those areas close to your business. Someone else mentioned this, you really want to be close to your business. I speak from first hand experience as we were only 4 miles from our business the first 4 years - now we commute 11 miles. I can assure you I miss the 4 mile commute. A bit farther is Deerfield Beach and you should take a look at that area as well.

While Delray is preferable you will also want to be practical. Either way - welcome to Florida and much luck with your business!!
