Default Relocating from Detroit

My husband has just accepted a job offer in Ft. Lauderdale. I am going to try and transfer to my company’s Boca Raton office. We were thinking of living in Deerfield Beach (renting for the 1st year). What would the commute be like from Deerfield Beach to downtown Ft. Lauderdale? Are there any other areas that we should consider? My husband will do up to an hour commute, but I would like to keep mine to around 30-40 min. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Deerfield Beach or Pompano would both allow for about 30 minute commute to both FTL and BR in bad rusch hour traffic. It may actually take less on some days. The problem is exiting I95 to downtown FTL (and I assume it may be similar in BR, but I am not familiar with that commute). If you can live east of I95, more expansive but also more enjoyable in my opinion, then you can skip the interstate all together and reduce your commute.

Neither commute is bad ( 35 - 40 minutes ) and Deerfield Beach has some very nice areas and ammenities , as well you are close to upscale areas like Boca , Palm Beach and Las Olas Blvd Ft . Lauderdale . As long as you stay north of the Broward line you will enjoy living in South Florida .... remember this is the Miami forum but the areas you are looking at are another world . You will be 45 - 50 minutes from Miami ( no traffic ) and you can go party there on the weekends ... just do not live there !!

I agree with Cixel , rent for at least a year . Prices are slowly coming down and Governor Crist is hell bent on lowering insurance and property taxes so it should be a bit more affordable here next year !!

Default Thanks for the input

I wasn't sure whether to post in the Miami forum, or in the Florida forum. I like the idea of being close to Miami, but from what I've read on here, I know I can not afford to live somewhere decent there. I lost money on the house I just sold in Detroit, so I will be hesitant to purchase a house again until I am fairly sure I will not have another loss.
