Well my BF and several friends have lived there for years and years (some their whole lives) and they seem to have the same opinion I do.

I have heard about people moving from FL to Texas, Carolina, GA...not so much NYC...

Btw, I'd hardly say the beach in NY compares to the beach in FL...there is that apples oranges thing you were talking about. Hmmm...60 degree water vs 80 degree water, lol.

Ok so beaches get old...I actually don't even do the beach thing. What about everything else?? If you are an ACTIVE person South FL would never run out of things to do. So far you've said NY has better free stuff (whoopee) and a higher caliber of museums... and... ? Those don't get old?

And in any event, are all the people saying boo hoo South FL has nothing to do ALL from New York? Is that the only place in the whole country one should compare South FL to?

If it is so horrible and boring why don't you go back to NY?? (Collective "you" as in the New Yorkers complaining about South FL)

The quality of living sucks in Fort Lauderdale vs. Brooklyn for what income bracket exactly? And where are you going in NYC for free? They have parks in South Florida too...

lol..after my last post I got an email from a friend living in brooklyn inviting me to her wedding in June taking place in Broward. Hadn't spoken to her in about six months, but this is her update. She bought a house in Siver Lakes, and commutes from NYC to FL every weekend since her fiance lives there. She'll be giveng up her 6 figure salary as the director of a brokerage firm on Wall Street.

So there, here's one more person I know moving to SFL. I guess I should mention her age; she's 50, grown kids and a divorced originally from Central America. Her wordds ' I'm tired of the rat race and cold weather in NY'. Her explanation to me is that she be now 'living' and not just 'existing'.

Kayaking, swimming, shore dives (once you have equipments), walking along the beach, going to a dog park, art galleries, several museums...free free free free.

Also if someone is saying boo hoo I'm bored because I don't want to spend any money...that is kind of their problem, now isn't it?

So what exactly does Brooklyn have that South Florida doesn't? Also if FL is so awul and boring that why do soooooooooooo many NYers come down south...yet you don't see many people born in FL heading up north to NY
NYers head south now because of the weather. In the early 90's it use to be be because of affordable real estate.

one thing though, u have to drive every where in SFL where as DC and NYC you can hop a train, bus or cab. And in SFL u better have a good working car else u will get run off the road. The last week I was there I put on 600 miles just visiting friends and running around.

If ur born into a decent neighbour hood in SFL, like Miramar - to duplicate that setting in NYC you would have to move to the island. You have any idea how much it cost to make that move not to mention the real estate taxes are stoopidly high. Ok, so lets say u don't want to buy but want to rent a comparable place with all the amenities. Last time I check my neighbour's son was paying $4k a month for a small apt in NY (village to be exact). And that's y u don't see many born floridians moving to NYC.

ahh..Wat park they have in NYC other Central Park that's manicured, rolling etc? hmm...I can't think of any...

I wouldn't knock NY though...NY has way more pluses than minues, especially for young folks now starting off. I wouldn't be where I am professionally today, if I had never lived and gone to college in NY in my earlier years. No place to raise a family, but when it comes to night life, partying, no hangups (false people) - it is the place to be.

It is the land of opportunity - if u can't make it in NY u can't make it anywhere else.......

I suggest you look at the number of people living in the city of fort lauderdale or Miami and compare that to the numbers of people living in NYC. No comparison sweetie.

have you ever lived in NYC? It is tuff to have a intelligent conversation with someone who is trying to argue against a place they have never lived in. NYC has ALL sorts of events going on year round, not just free museums and parks. Suggest you look at the events that go on in NYC for a year and compare it to Fort Lauderdale, no comparison.

Right now I can go get a 3 bedroom in a safe area in Brooklyn for a 1,000 a month try pulling that off in Fort Lauderdale, not gonna happen. As for free, have you ever lived in NYC? This question is sort of silly. All I can tell you is go do research on events in a given month. Lets say compare June, July and August in NYC to the same time periods in Fort Lauderdale, then you will get the picture.

how old where you when you left NYC? You obviously don't know the city that well. Miramar cant compete with Clinton Hills, Forest Hills, Riverdale, Parts of Flatbush, Stuyvesant Heights, and the list goes on, all in new york city.

Those areas are indeed way nicer (sans any of Flatbush, but nonetheless not comparable), but aren't in Long Island like the OP was suggesting, nor are they in any way comparable in population density or lifestyle. That's like comparing South Beach or Brickell to Elmont or Freeport. Wouldn't it be more fair to compare Miramar to say, Hempstead or Uniondale in Long Island? For the same price, I'll take the newer housing and (relative) spaciousness in Miramar, which in many areas is more comparable to being further east on the Island like Suffolk County in feel. Many perceive that feeling of spaciousness and quiet to be desirable for a good hundred thousand dollars less, plus less in property taxes, no income tax, etc.

On the other hand, I would take those areas of the city over Miramar for even a lot more money, but once again, they are not in any way comparable and some people don't like that lifestyle, nor see the convenience of city life as valuable.

What I am saying is that both areas are what they are, and it's a matter of what you like or value.
