under 1,000 hunh? Ummmm ok, not to offend anyone but do you mind living among a lot of homosexuals? If not then check out the north side of Victoria park. You should also look in Hammock bend which is on the south side of Broward Blvd across from Victoria park. Quiet and they have some buildings that might be in your price range. The next place to check would be the south side of rio vista, a little further from downtown but nothing a bike couldn't handle. All of them are safe (well I can't vouche for rio vista). Also look in Flagler Village which is west of Victoria park on the west side of US1. They have some older buildings that might suit your needs but that area is suspect at night. Someone posted on here last year about Flagler Village. They had a friend who lived over there and they spoke about the prostistutes and drug dealers they encountered. Nothing life threatening, but its there none the less.

Best of luck
