Coral Springs/Weston...Moving down from NY which area would you suggest?
Hello all, my family and I will be relocating (depending on the job situation) to Broward County. Can those of you who know these 2 areas give me any advice as to which one you like better? Thank you!

Hey momma - hope all is well. I think I will be renting initially. i obviously would like to by for as cheap as possible, but I'm not going to get into a house until my job situation is secured. That being said, I would really like to rent in the area that i will eventually buy. I don't want to change my kids school if I don't have to.

If you don't want to change their school you should find the school you like and rent in that area. There are probably more rentals communities in Coral Springs than Weston, but there are some in Weston. Most of Coral Springs is nice. All of Weston in nice. The nice areas of Coral Springs are just as nice as Weston.

Well, I won't know what school they are going to until I find that job I so desperately need. I will have to make my decision then. If I work in Boca - I will live in coral Springs - if I work in Miami, I will move to Weston. But, I'm glad to know that either place is good to be in. Thank you for your input.

Tonyc - Where is SW Ranches? I heard cooper city is kind of rural - I don't want that, I'm not ready to make that much of a slow down. I need a space a little more city like.

Chelsea1075 - no need to worry about anything rural in this area! Everything is city - the only difference is how long it takes to get to the closest strip mall. No matter how far west, or south you go in Broward, you will never be more than 5-10 minutes from a shopping center or major road. Weston is expensive but then again, most everything nice is. There are quite a few not so nice places but if you are willing to spend a little extra, you can get setup in a nice neighborhood. All cities around here blend into the other cities and most do not have a different personality. Also, I would STRONGLY suggest you get a good paying job before you even consider moving here. But since the housing market is depressed, you would most likely get a good deal. Also, are you set on Broward? Have you considered the other side of the State - the Fort Myers and Tampa area? There are some nice areas over there too and the people or a little more hospitable - not to mention the houses over there are really cheap (realtively speaking). Something to think about!

Thank you, truth be told, if it were up to me I probably wouldn't go to Florida at all, however, most of mine and my husbands family now live there. To go to Tampa really isn't an option for that reason. I think (at least from what I'm reading) that most of the people who dislike SFL are not really from the NYC per say. Obviously, people from all over the world live in SFL. I think the difference is though when you are coming from a place like Virginia or either of the Carolina's, where people are genuinely nice, SFL is not going to be that for you. I said before in one of my posts, SFL is a completely different animal than other parts of Florida. To be honest it is filled with very NY type people and as I stated before, I hate to be thought of as rude or brash, I am nice to people who are nice to me. I think a lot of NYer's play into the role that everyone thinks they are crazy and so on. Everything has to be taken with a grain of salt. My experience has been both good and bad with people from SFL, some are incredibley rud and other's go out of their way to be nice. I guess it depends on the vibe you give off.
