errr, I know reading comprehension varies among people but where did I say it was funny they were losing their job? I said haha as in compelled was right. Especially given the attack he received for stating his opinion.

The thing is that some of those neighborhoods surrounding Motorola were originally built on it's presence (note the serious decline of areas to the north and east of it), and that they have been shedding employees in the past 10 years even during the better times.

Good thing my brother in law left there over 4 years ago after Sprint bought out Nextel. He new bad news was coming down the pipes then. His group doesn't even exist anymore now. I still have 2 friends that work there now. I hope they made the cut for now, but they might not be able to dodge it any further when they close the whole place. Such a sad brain drain to this area. These are the kind of jobs we need more here than infrastructure work.

I never knew that. I would guess American Express would probably have the same affect too, no? I hear they are not doing good at all.

I THINK Sun microsystems used to be in plantation too, they aren't anymore. Also anyone know of Nortel is still out in Sawgrass?

I also had a 2 friends that work for AMEX there. One got laid off years ago and another one transfered to their office in North Carolina.
I'm not sure about the Nortel site there, but I use to support Lucent office near there many years ago and that Lucent office has been gone for a long time. Since I've been here 9 years ago, I'm seeing more companies leaving than growing here. I'm wondering if mine will shut down operation here and move to the west coast and grow their India group. It's starting to look that way now.

Then you should have found the original thread and made your comment there. Barring that, a DM would have sufficed. Instead you titled a thread Motorola Layoffs In Plantation...and then in the inside, the first thing a person laid off from Motorola will read is haha, you were right, yada, yada, yada...NOT, isn't that a shame, what are those people going to do, is this the beginning of a trend, where are people going to get jobs, etc. If nothing else it betrays a jarring lack of sensitivity on your part, where being right or wrong about something trumps the effect somethng like this will have on 77 families lives.

whoa whoa, you worked for Lucent? I used to work for Lucent! I was there when the poo poo hit the fan in 2001 and my entire unit was laid off. I was living out in Texas back then.
