I think 80 is a bit warm, no? I usually keep my air around 73, but that is in NY and I like to be cold in the summer. Isn't that a pisser - LOL - I'm sure that once our move is in place we will definitely not keep it at 73 in Florida.

I don't believe it. I'm in an apartment and my bills are not that low. You must not run your ac all day and if you do, is it set to 80+? Anyone moving from any state other than Florida is going to run their ac 75 or lower. We run ours at 76 degrees.

I just spoke to my friend who owns a 3300 sqft house. She told her electric bill in August was almost $800 and last month it was $350. She lives in Weston.

I live in the original section of Davie. It was settled in the early 1900's. Yes, it is possible to find a woodframe house. Many people here are afraid of them because of hurricanes. My house was built by a pair of Swiss brothers. If well-made, they stand up well in a hurricane - obv not anything in the direct path of a cat 4 or higher. During Andrew, the new houses in Country Walk fared worst and were flattened. The older houses built in the 50's stood, however many lost their roofs. Now everyone here is much better educated. You cant even buy a house without hurricane shutters now.

My bills are correct. My wife complains that she's paying too much. She should come here and read these messages.

As I said in my previous post, we set the temp at 79-80 degrees (we are from upstate NY) and run A/C 24/7 during summer. I also run a home theater PC server that runs 24/7.

I think there are several factors that reduce our bill.

1. Most our light bulbs are energy efficient.
2. We have very little western exposure. Most of our windows are facing east, which means no direct sunlight coming in in the afternoon.
3. House was built in 2003. Perhaps, less wear and tear on A/C? It's a single story with a very square looking plan. We have lots of open spaces that helps ventilation.

Western exposure is a killer. I can hardly stand in the kitchen during the late afternoon. What a shame! But seriously, look at the way the home is positioned. That is important.
