OOPS! On my last paragraph I meant to write WEST of 441. All of the neighborhoods I mentioned are zoned for WBoca HS. Good luck in the search!

West Boca has a "sketchy " area for about two miles on 441 just before Coconut Creek if you are driving south . There are a few sort of run down apartment complexes and some ugly little strip malls ... the rest is all pretty nice especially the farther North you go on 441 .

Good response and description , I also like to say that everything near I-95 is usually pretty much lower income from Dade alll the way to Palm Beach County .

There's no high-crime hoods in West Boca, just some less than desirable areas due to the lower income apartments found throughout the area. They're bad in an "odd" way, not in the sense that you'll get shot when you walk outside your home.

Checking in from West Boca here too!
As far as West Boca is concerned, the only area that I'd consider sketchy is the trailer park area off Sandalfoot west of 441. The areas between 441 and Lyons from SW 3rd Street down to 18th are older homes but are ok for the most part. Unfortunately, those homes are REALLY close together.
The Oaks is very nice, but I don't believe it's in the WBH district. I live VERY close to that and I'm zoned for Olympic.
The school boundaries can be confusing. Before WBH opened, there were areas that were close to Olympic that were actually zoned for Spanish River. They were MUCH closer to Olympic yet zoned for River. Explain THAT one! LOL Take a look at the Palm Beach County schools website and you can find the boundaries for the different schools.
I wouldn't consider this area very diverse either.

When I was in high school (2000-2004) about 99% of the diversity was bussed in from Delray Beach. From what I heard, all of the good teachers went to WBoca and Olympic Heights has suffered.

My ex-h was part of the first graduating class (1993) from Olympic. The cover of his diploma says "Charter Class." Did you know someone by the name of Tricia Root? I know she graduated in 2004 and I believe it was from Olympic.
And I agree about the whole bussed in diversity thing. My ex had the same thing to say. Once the new Atlantic High opened up, they didn't have to do that anymore.

oh berry - I so know what you mean - I really couldn't tell the nice areas from the bad in Ft. Lauderdale - I mean there are some areas that don't look appealing, but for the most part asthetically everything looks beautiful, even the parts that aren't so nice. I was really picking and chosing the areas that I liked based on the demographics of the school. So far I have to say that has worked for me. I picked 5 places that I would live in Broward - Parkland, Coral Springs, Cooper City, Davie and Weston. The schools were consistently A rated and the areas are clean and safe. you know that you can actually call the local police stations and get crime index's of the area you are searching - it is actually quite cool. Coral Springs in 07 and 08 was the safest City in Broward. I think it is also called the city for kids, I think that is what I heard. Any way - we will figure it out together, I think there is someone else on this forum that we have to track down that wants to move to South Florida too.
