Yes "overall nice/safer neighbourhoods consider Weston, Davie, Cooper City, Plantation or Coral Springs." but these area are just so far out west, if you have kids and don't go out much these areas are great then. But if you are a young person or someone that has a life and enjoys going out on the weekends then you need to live east because that is where everything happens, EAST. Yes, not ever area close to the beach areas is great, but there are some nicer areas.

That cannot be truthfully said about Miami.

What an exaggeration. I have lived in Miami for 8 years, and must say it has many beautiful areas that Tallrick could only dream of living in. Miami has much more to offer vistors to South Florida. Miami has Bayside, Miami Beach, Coconut Grove, Parrot Jungle, largest cruise port, extensive shopping and dining options. Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue. Some of the most sophisicated neighborhoods are in Miami: Brickell, Key Biscayne, Coral Gables, Coco Plum, Coconut Grove, South Miami, Pinecrest, Miami Beach.

When people think of fun, sun, excitement and adventure - they don't think Ft Lauderdale, they think Miami.

I think our "English" speaking friends (who are not friendly as they claim as you can tell by their racist remarks), may be a little jealous that FT. Lauderdale is not up to that standard yet.

Ft. Lauderdale residents need to stop being so Jealous of Dade and concentrate more on trying to make FLL a world class city.

Ft lauderdale is known as the venice of North America because of its many many canals. Actually that makes for a beautiful city. I love broward. its a good place to escape the fast paced life of my miami. Its just a little bit slower. But i love going thier. Its a minority majority county as well. Heres a lilttle more info on our sister county of broward

According to a report released by the U.S. Census Bureau on August 4, 2006, the total population of Broward County had risen to 1.8 million people in 2005. This number is accounted for by an increase to 442,355 in its black population and an increase to 364,121 of its non-black Hispanic population. 24.9% of the population of the county is black, while 21.9% of the population is Hispanic. A significant portion of the black population has resulted from immigration, of whom are mainly Afro-Caribbeans/West Indians. Some Afro-Latinos and Afro-Brazilians might also classify themselves as only black. More black foreigners immigrated to Broward County between 2001 and 2005 than any other county in the United States. At the same time, Hispanics have continued to move into the county from neighboring Miami-Dade County and from Latin America, in particular, Venezuela and Colombia. 71.3% spoke English, 16.3% Spanish, 3.5% Haitian French Creole, 1.8% French and 1.1% Portuguese as their first language.

The population change is significant in at least one respect: The percentage of population identified as non-Hispanic white has now dropped to less than half, at 49.9%. As such, Broward County is now "minority-majority".

In Miami, the closer to the beach you are, the BETTER the area!!! I guess it's opposite in Broward. From the little I know about Broward, it does seem true though.

When people think of fun, sun, excitement and adventure - they don't think Ft Lauderdale, they think Miami.
The neighborhoods you quoted are mostly of the more affluent areas of Miami. So, it's great if you live in the middle of those neighborhoods or spend your family holiday in those specific areas. Of course, the locals know about these areas, and the city makes sure movie makers focus primarily on the best locations of Miami (Bad Boys, Meet the Fockers, Fast & Furious, etc.). As a result, people visiting Miami share the perception you mentioned - fun, sun, excitment and advanture. However, visitors not familiar with the area can get lost very easily. A couple of wrong turns can put you outside of those affluent neighborhoods and into a bad part of town quickly. I'm sure people recall 8 or 10 yrs ago when many European visiting Miami were robbed and car jacked. Surely, they didn't happen on Ocean Drive, and those visitors probably didn't intend on a self-guided tour of inner-city Miami.

It basically boils down to what environment(s) would you (the original poster) be more comfortable in & can afford.

To be honest, I'm glad that I don't have friends here in a way...if I did, I'd have to go out with them and going out here is expensive and just not my scene. This is an unfriendly place. I used to say "hello" to people, only to have them ignore me.
Wow! I had to double check to make sure I didnt write this myself. You hit the nail on the head!!!!! I'm thinking of moving to CA because of the great paying nursing positions. The pay in South Florida is very low compared to the cost of living.

You think the pay for a nurse is low here and you want to move to California because the pay is more proportional? Medical is one field that actually is competitive here and proportional to what it costs to live, so maybe you have had bad luck. Try 1500 a month for a crappy studio in SF and about the same in any other desirable part of CA (Stockton and Inland Empire wasn't that expensive but man those places are hell and still more expensive than South FL). Even if you hate it here, you know that 1500 gets you into a half decent place here. And wait until you find how much of it gets taxed in CA. Believe me if that CA salary actually covered the costs, I would live in San Diego right now.

Actually, the nice suburbs are west in Miami as well - Kendall, Doral, Miami Lakes, Hialeah Gardens, etc.
