This is just wrong. I'm a caucasian male, and I moved back to South Florida after spending 6 years in the deep south. I enjoyed my life up there, but after a while I really missed South Florida. I moved back because I missed the beach, the warmer weather, and to be honest it was just plain boring, redundant, etc up there. Yeah so the people are nice, white, southern, etc. But it gets old when your choices of shopping is Wal-Mart, and Longhorn Steakhouse is the finest restaurant in town. I'd rather live in a more diverse area like South Florida that has more culture, more choices of restaurants and entertainment, etc. Also, the radio stations here bleep out curse words instead of changing around all of the lyrics of my favorite songs.
Also, all of these people who think North Carolina is the land of Eden, just wait 10 years until NC becomes the next South Florida. All of those people who moved there will be miserable and will complain about the hispanics moving in there, the crime will get worse, etc. NC will experience the same problems that South Florida is going through. Its just a matter of time. If you are a miserble person, it doesn't matter where you go you won't be happy.

We lived in South FL for 12 years and moved to CT 1.5 years ago. We always thought we would be happier in the northeast, where we could easily choose public school for our children, where they could actually walk to neighbors without fear of who they would find on the road. And maybe where we could enjoy less traffic, less stress.
After a year an a half I am finally feeling like we made CT home again. But this would not have been possible if we had not decided to keep our house in Hollywood. We actually had finally an offer we could take and turned it down. The best decision ever.
That I, in particular, and my youngest child were not ready to move away from South FL and unhappy of our new surroundings became clear almost immediately. We did not like to gloomy weather, the less than friendly people, the schools were bad for both girls the first year (just happened to have the worst 5th teacher and to pick a bad preschool), and we had to use the car to go everywhere, just like in FL, and we ended up being in the car longer than before. And, finally, flying to Italy to visit family has become such a hassle. You got to appreciate having Miami international close to home. Try flying out of Bradley international in a snow storm, or driving to JFK in rush hour traffic to catch the flight that was cancelled at Bradley for the snow storm....
I will never put FL down again. The weather, even its hot summers, may not be enough to prefer FL to new england, but it is a very strong positive factor. Live through a winter in CT, with ice storms, cold bathrooms, layers over layers, the time it takes to dress a 4 year old to go outside, and then judged the FL summers. People are rude in FL? Come up here and check it out. The only difference is that in new england they call it "reservation".
We know we can not come back right now. My husband's career needed this move and it has been great for him. My children live in a safer place and go to very good public schools. However, we already know that, as soon as the girls are out of school, we will be back. And we won't wait for retirement. I know I just want to live south of the 25th parallel, where the sun greets you in the morning, the palms swing in the wind when you open your windows, and people may be rude, but they are not grouchy all the times. And my child would not end up with a severe vitam D deficiency because of the lack of sun.....

So according to you there are no Cuban Caucasians ?
You seem like a smart person , but the more of your posts I read the more your ugly side emerges .... by the way your comment above is amazingly ignorant . You do realize that there are many Hispanic Caucasians and that Hispanic is not a race ?
By the way we have two neighbors here in Parkland that both moved back to South Florida from Raleigh - Durham NC & Columbia SC ... both missed South Florida were unhappy in the Carolinas and yes both are white americans .

I am a white female, 49, 4 kids, college educated, husband earns 6 figures--so we are not poor, destitute, black, cuban, mexican, hispanic, latino or any other wonderful cultural group-just caucasian.
I moved from Orlando to Raleigh in 2004. Raleigh was fine. I enjoyed the people, etc. But I moved back to Orlando after 6 mos in Raleigh. I could have stayed there--but chose not too.
I went to school for 10 months down in Miami and Pompano Beach in 2007. I LOVED IT DOWN THERE
As a matter-of-fact, I am leaving in the morning to go down to Miami and look around with thoughts of moving back down there.
I have met many people who went "back up" north because they thought they didn't like Florida. Like me, they decided Florida wasn't so bad afterall. Some have been lucky enough to return and others can't return bacause now they can no longer afford to.
I spent all of December looking around in GA, NC, and VA as possible places to re-locate. I left on the Sunday after Thanksgiving--had to be back in Orlando on 12-15--so returned for 4 days before leaving for 2weeks in VA. Returned to Florida on New Year's Day. Both times I was actually glad to be back in Florida--sunshine, warm weather, green trees and plants, etc. Every time I leave Florida cause I think I want to live somewhere else, I always get back here thinking Florida isn't so bad afterall. Maybe I have found my utopia--state wise--and I just don't know which city it is yet.
My adult kids feel the same way. Sometimes they think they want to leave, but after visiting friends & relatives up north--they are always glad to be back here too.
Besides, down here in Florida I do not have to deal with smoking in public buildings--which actually was at the top of my list in deciding whether to return to Florida or stay in NC.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone, calm down... what I meant was, I could see why a person would want to move back to Miami if they were Cuban (to be around Cubans). But I cant really see that many white folks wanting to move to Miami. That's all. People, whether they admit it or not, most like to be around people that have the same color skin. Like it or not, most people feel more comfortable that way. With that being said, I can see why someone would leave a place like NC for a place like Miami, especially if Cuban.
If I were cuban, I would probably enjoy a place like Miami, or other parts of S FL. Not so sure what the big deal is and why I am getting bombarded with these comments. I never said, "All Cubans should live in Miami," or "whites dont like S FL." All I said was, "I could see why........" Notice how I phrase it, meaning, it's my opinion.

^^^ I think the mistake you made was in assuming that other people are as self-segregating as you are.

^^^ Do you believe there has been "white flight" from South Florida to the Carolinas as there was from Hialeah?
