You seem like a complete tool. First, South Florida is still predominantly white, non-Spanish speaking. Non-Spanish whites still hold the majority here, although if the current trend continues that will change in about 10 years. Second, why is it ok for you to start a stupid thread bashing South Florida for speaking Spanish, but not ok for Rock Newman to criticize Greenville, SC for being pro-confederate? Sorry to burst your bubble, but Greenville SC is not a better place to live than South FLorida. Not everyone wants to wear tight wranglers and cowboy boots, and be stuck in the 19th century.

A few corrections to other posters:
1. There has been talk recently about South Florida becoming its own state, but it will never happen. That is because it would benefit South Florida a lot more than the rest of the state, since South FL would get to keep 100% of its tax dollars instead of them being equally distributed around the rest of the state by Tallahassee. As it stands now, Tallahassee is getting about a 50% return for every dollar of taxes paid by South Florida, while South FL is only getting back about 75 cents on the dollar for every dollar it pays to Tallahassee. Central and Northern FL need South Florida's tax revenue to function.

2. There has also been talk recently about states like South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas becoming their own country (what else is new?)? My response would be good riddance. Those states have nothing to offer the rest of the U.S. in the way of culture, and they are way behind in education. Let them become their own country since that's what they've wanted for 2 centuries now and they can reinstate slavery. You can throw in Tennessee with that bunch because they are the most backwards state in the union. Listen, I love Charleston SC. I have been there numerous times, and I love going to the mountains to vacation. Beautiful country and landscape. But the people there are horrible. They are racist, and stuck in the past. I would love for them to become their own country and the U.S. could make a pact with them for free borders so that we could vacation in the mountains every year.

Anyhow, the question was asked (not suprisingly) if S FL became it's own state, what would the official language be? About 65% said English, followed by Spanish and Creole I believe.

What do you think the official language should be, IF South FL had become it's own state?
Why do you need an "official" language? People should just speak whatever makes them happy.

If an official language were declared, it would most certainly be English.

And this coming from a fan of the most crooked sports program in the country...

I don't understand what you think is so "backwards" about Tennessee ? People can afford insurances here, People can afford a house, car, food. We have a statewide healthcare system called "TennCare" that provides medical help for a large majority of our citizens. Oh, but Florida does have us beat on a couple things.. Welfare recipents, Foreclosures, and Pedophiles to name a few...

Smartest State 2006-2007

Lets not forget when it comes to education, Florida ranked 29th and Tennessee was 30th, If we're a bunch of uneducated hicks sitting at 30th, What's that make Florida at 29 ?

Oh, BTW, Texas and South Carolina at 25 and 26 came in higher than Florida

As for your remarks about Texas and Louisiana, Texas is one of the largest producers of Beef in the U.S., They are the 2nd largest producers of Oranges and Citrus. Not to mention they produce the most Oil in the U.S.

Louisiana, Well, They provide a huge shipping industry and are among the best in Seafood and they are the largest sugar suppliers in the U.S.

One things for sure, about 90% of the U.S. oil refineries and chemicals plants reside in Louisiana and Texas.

No offense, but what does South Florida have to offer the U.S. that the Bahamas, West/Central Florida, and South Texas can't ?

Nothing.

98 National Championship still stings, don't it ?

Wow, settle down there buddy. We were using our 3rd string walk-on QB and you guys only beat us by 10 points. If we had our heisman winning QB I'm sure we would have beaten you guys. Dirtiest program in the history of football? I think UT wins that award. Typical Tennessee guy, using football to win an intellectual argument.

As for the state of Tennessee, ever heard of the Scopes Monkey Trial? Need I go any further? Yeah you guys have less welfare recipients, less perverts, etc, but you also have less population. And are you telling me Tennesse has no forclosures or welfare recipients? So lets not pretend that Tennessee has no problems. FL may have a lot of welfare recipients, but we also have a lot more wealth as a hole than Tennessee does.

You did an outstanding job outlining things that Texas and Lousiana produce that are of value, but you named nothing that Tennessee produces. Florida actually has the 2nd largest citrus industry, not Texas last time I checked. Florida has a big cattle/livestock industry. Also, we have one of the largest vacation/tourism industries in the country. We also are home to NASA and we have large fishing/seafood industries as well. So to say we produce nothing is wrong. Also, I might add that our illegal drug industry down here is pretty strong. Come on man, admit it. You smoke the crack, right?

Also, are you talking about the entire state of FL? Or just South FLorida. Because the rest of our state isn't much better in crime, perverts, etc. So those stats are weighing down South Florida. In fact, some cities like Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa are worse in some crime categories than Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

What does South Florida have to offer the U.S.? Probably not much so I agree with you there. It would just become another New Jersey, a small state with a large urbanized population. It would be a service based economy. But that's no different than what it is now, a playpen for the rich.
