Thank you DOGGIEBUS for your reply. I remember when they lived in Weston we did see one of those frogs and now they are coming back with 2 adorable dogs. Who do you call if you see the snakes are there handlers that come out??? I appreciate your response.

I have never called anyone, the snakes usually slither away. But I am sure there is someone. The Pesky Critter Guy Todd maybe.

Oh yes there are millions of snakes in Broward.Even if you live in a high rise on the beach they get in your house. Most of them are deadly poisonous and between them and the massive crime, high property taxes, crooked politics and alligators that can open locked doors,I would recommend NO ONE move to South Florida. In fact if some of you carpet baggers would like to move out, I would gladly help you pack.

If you are afraid of frogs, then you SHOULD NOT move here. Putting a fence up to prevent snakes from entering your back yard is like putting a tent up in your living room to prevent the roof from falling on your head. The only land snakes that tend to live in highly-developed areas are garden snakes/black racers that are harmless. They slither away the moment a human gets within 15 feet. They live underground so no fencing will keep them out. Rat snakes and king snakes are around too, but are also harmless. The water moccasins that live in lakes, ditches, and canals tend to stay in or around waters/boggy areas. You don't need to worry about them wandering into your backyard or your house because they stay near water. Coral snakes are possible in yards, but they are a non-aggressive snake similar to a garden snake and will only strike if you step on it or corner it. Rattlesnakes and Copperheads are rare in developed areas. They tend to live in heavily wooded areas such as western Palm Beach County or parts of Broward west of the development I'm sure. Areas of heavy brush.

Fairly interesting thread...so I'd imagine WESTON would be prime territory for most things, being it is closest to the Everglades.

The buffo toads...interesting, as I do recall another thread where people were worried about them. I didn't read it, but now from this thread, I realize they can kill a small dog if it licks it.

Sounds like Davie has a good amount of snakes as well? It seems like probably everywhere in Broward County with the canal system that is all over the place, right?

I don't mind it so much...but I am surprised that houses aren't built a little off the ground...like with steps up to the front door way, etc.

All were harmless garter or southern black racers.

The black racers can be intimidating when cornered - they coil, strike, and shake their tail, and also are very fast on the ground or in the trees.

There are no "grass snakes" or "garden snakes" or "copperheads" anywhere near Broward county.
Cottonmouths are few and far between, rattlesnakes are rare and coral snakes are few and far between as well.
