Default Beachfront condo prices? HOA questions and taxes...

Hello I was recently looking at some realtor sites in the ft lauderdale area. I came across some beach front condos in Hollywood i think it was after reading some positive reviews from this forum. Is that considered Ft Lauderdale? Is it close?

The real question I wanted to ask is as a single person/single income I am in the market for a 1 or 2 BR condo. What are some of the prices that they go for? Can they be had for 150k or is that still wishfull thinking? I looked online and found two buidlings that had them in the price range I was thinking, Im sure you native Floridians have heard of them. I was wondering if they were crap buildings or in terrible neighborhoods etc...
(Cant find the link, Ill post this and append my post with the name of the buildings when I find them. Thanks)

Are there any specific areas or buildings I should be looking at?

What is the story about HOA fees? I live in NYC and havent heard of them. For my CO-OP I pay mortgage & maintenance. Can the board just raise your HOA fees whenever they choose? Are they something to really look out for? Why the huge difference in fees between buildings?

Thanks for any info you can give.
