Historic Plantation
Can anyone tell me more information about the area in Plantation known as historic Plantation? We are looking to buy in the area. Some of the house seem really beautiful with nice big yards! Anyhoo, I don't really know much else about it, I did notice a handful of families and it seemed people enjoy walking the neighborhood etc. Any other input is greatly appreciated. We are looking anywhere just prior to the turnpike, Plantation Park, Plantation Gardens are some of the neighborhoods we like. Thanks!

The area is really nice and is centrally located in Broward. I know it's not much, but that's all I know lol.

I used to around that area. Very nice, quiet area. I would bike ride from that area to the mirror lake area almost every night. They have a nice park over there, very quiet. They have a LITTLE library over there and Plantations first fire station. They also have nesting hawks, egrets and tons of other wild life. Nice area.

I grew up in the area, on Pine Terrace (old Plantation Gardens). It is a quiet, lovely community. Back in the 70's there was a movement for homeowner's to plant olive trees on the swale in front of their property, so most of the streets are tree-lined. Lovely. Many of the older homes off of East Acre Drive have been remodeled and updated. All of these homes sit on large lots (hence the name East Acre.) The library is @ 501 N. Fig Tree Lane, and is very quaint, but has current technology. The Rec Center is @ 5555 Palm Tree Road, has tennis courts and a squash ball court. Also the Plantation Historical Museum is behind the library on Fig Tree Lane. The fire station (volunteer department with supposedly excellent insurance ratings), is at West Broward Blvd. and East Acre Drive. Shopping is close by with Publix located at Broward Boulevard and 69th Avenue.
There are some very big beautiful homes along Holly Lane, Cypress Road, Coconut & Almond Terrace(s).
The only drawback I can recall is the garbage service. One has to pay for trash bags and only refuse in those bags will be picked up by the trucks. I don't know how much the bags are right now, but I'm sure its a hefty price.
The City of Plantation is a full-service city. A wonderful community. If I could afford to, I would move back.

Ya we live in Plantation right now near Central Park and the garbage and recycle bags are not fun to buy....but part of the package. Your garbage has to be in the blue bags w/the Plantation logo. But I do love the tree lined streets and find both areas of Plantation to be very beautiful!

I just wandered all around this area today, including by the original plantation homes. I have to say that this is a very charming area with a natural, tropical look to it that is rare in west Broward, but the condition of neighborhoods seemed very hit and miss, and with the beauty of the area, that is a shame to me. I saw some streets that looked immaculate, some where even the estates on large pieces of land were looking like they had seen better days, lots of awkwardly placed apartment buildings and duplexes that seemed a little shady/Deepside like, and closer to the turnpike, a few barren/treeless pockets of typical 1950s ranch homes on small lots with an uncanny resemblance to something you would find in east Miramar. It seemed that the deeper you got into the neighborhood, the better kept the homes were. Plantation Park seemed to be kept nicely all around, and south of Broward Blvd seemed a lot more consistent than north. All and all, I'm not familiar enough to make a real judgment, but I felt something awkward about the area that would make me want to enjoy it from the outside, rather than live in it. I'm also pretty sure that there are a lot of burglaries in that area, and I noted that a lot of the homes had security doors, which aren't too common in other areas of Plantation. I could be wrong about the burglaries though. All and all, I feel that the area is probably fine to live in for now, but looks like it's going downhill. I wonder if it has something to do with how close it is to the "deepside" section of Lauderhill.
