ps....my wife just informed me that the elementary school near us is an "A" rated school. Besides Sunrise you should also look at Plantation, Tamarac, and Coral Springs (all in west Broward County) If you're open to getting a townhouse, you should have no problem finding something in your range for some of these other areas.

You should definitely rent first....and take the time to check out neighborhoods at your leisure...

8.00 per hour is on a distinguished road
The Sunrise area might be good for you, it's a pretty mixed area with some older homes that you can get for under $300,000. I would say Weston or Pembroke Pines but $300,000 will get you a 2/2 right now and nothing more. My mom lives in Pembroke Pines in a small 3/2 in a association called Pembroke Shores... She bought the house for $140,000 in 1995 and now it's worth about $375,000 and it's dropping since houses aren't selling....

It will be benifical if you can wait about a year then move down here, let the home prices settle then come.

Check out Tamarac, Coral Springs, Sunrise.... basically stay West on i-95.

the prices of houses down here is starting to really drop but the place is still undesirable. also if you decided to buy a house down here check EVERYTHING. these houses are riddled with problems because they were made fast and cheap.

if you're referring to the area down south you reside in (homestead is it?) that's one thing, but your statement can not apply to all of South Florida. Our house was built in 1978 and is quite solid.
