Good parents and family support are far better than a child psychologist.

How do you know what this child needs or does not need? I think we can trust the parent of the child to better assess the needs of the child. Fortunately my children have not needed a psychologist so I have no recommendation for the OP but your comment struck me as unecessary.

My experience in life tells me that. With good parents most children will have no need for a psychologists.

Sometimes they just need someone they're comfortable with other than their parents to talk to.

As someone with a degree in mental health counseling, I can assure you Kalbo, that there are a LOT of mental health issues that have NOTHING to do with parenting. In fact, the vast majority.

I’d call my child’s pediatrician, if new to the area I’d call several to get referrals. Also, check the Broward county web site for social services or mental health, I would imagine they would have a list. I would also try Nova Southeastern Univ. they might have a few professors that maintain a private practice not to mention the many graduates/alumni that practice in the area.

Not everything that happens to a child is a result of parenting.

Thank you so much for all of the responses. I have many names of psychologists in our area, but really wanted a direct recommendation from someone who had personal knowledge about a Dr.. I hate just randomly picking someone. Our pediatrician recommended someone that I did not like. As for the comments about good parenting versus needing a psychologist......there are many reasons to see a child psychologist. Not all of them are because of mental health issues. Pshychologists also do IQ testing, testing for learning disabilities...... That was a very naive comment!
