Whiskey Creek in Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park in Dania. South of Ft Lauderdale but only a few minutes.

DeGroff Park in Lighthouse Point. Go during the week, weekends are too rough with boat traffic.

Thanks for recommendations Treezoo, I was actually wondering the same thing as OP. Also, definitely will give Dubois park between Tequesta and Fort Lauderdale a try, I looked at the pics and looks like I've been missing out!

I think Whiskey Creek at John Lloyd is great too. Very relaxed and close by.

3rd for Whiskey Creek at John Lloyd...My father used to take the family there by boat when I was very young. Sounds perfect for what the OP is looking for.

It isn't John U. Lloyd Park anymore, I don't think. They renamed it after determining John Lloyd was not politically correct enough.

Sure, and Hammondville Road is no longer Hammondville Road, Joe Robbie Stadium is no longer Joe Robbie Stadium, the Sears Tower is no longer the Sears Tower, etc etc..

The revisionists can slap whatever sign they want over John Lloyd and the rest, but they can never remove those namesakes from local commonspeak.

Correct. It'll always be John Lloyd to me and just about everyone else I know. The revisionists have been quite effective though. I'm sure we'll lose a few street names in Hollywood if that hasn't happened yet. Maybe we can just rename all the streets "MLK Ave." "MLK Street." "MLK Way"... etc.
