I am in the process of closing on an ocean-access canalfront property in Oakland Park. Without being too specific, the house is located in the Royal Palm Acres subdivision near John D. Easterlin Park west of I-95.

Does anyone know what size boat is navigable from this neighborhood to the ocean? The realtor I am working with was unsure but mentioned that high tide would likely limit clearance to about 4', and low tide to 7'. Are these numbers accurate? Is a 22' center console (without t-tops, of course) or bowrider a possibility?

Thanks for your time.

- Dave

I would check the neighborhood for anyone that may have a boat and ask.

Default What happened ?

Dave,

Did you ever move to this property? I'm looking in the same neighborhood now and I can't find bridge clearance info anywhere, especially for the railroad bridge just before Oakland Park Road. The Realtor gave me the same answer 4' & approx 6-7 low tide. I'm looking at a 19-21' bow-rider/Yamaha Jet boat. Their advertised in water height for a 212SS is 3'8".
Any info you can provide will help.
If anyone else knows where this info can be obtained, please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Carl

google maps the neighborhood. For a waterfront community, almost no one has a boat and the few that do are very small.

West of I95 is going to be a looooonnnng slow ride just to get to the intracoastal! I suspect you could get there on the trailer and launch at a ramp in 1/3 of the time!

I always chuckle when I think of people who buy "deep water access" houses by South Plantation High...

My buddy lives in west Stuart in a waterfront community......he has a 45+ minute ride to the ocean so his boat is on the trailer. He drives east, drops the boat in and is in the ocean in 20 minutes including the car ride and dropping the boat in the water!

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I guess I have choices. We closed on the house yesterday and once settled, begin to dive into my options. The boat isnt purchased yet, so no loss there. I have a tow vehicle so driving to a ramp is an option. The next door neighbor has a 19' bow rider in the water behind the house. I'll be questioning him regarding fixed bridges real soon.

Regards,

So that answers that. You can obviously squeeze a 19' boat under the bridge. And maybe picking up a couple jet skis to keep out back isn't a bad idea, either. If you want a bigger boat, tow the boat and when you want backyard access, hop on the ski.

Just keep in mind our winter time tides are a lot lower than summer time tides. You might have to just play the tides in the summer when we get the highest tides.

Congratulations on your new house!
