I see you are moving to Georgia , hope your kids are out of school . My brother moved from Weston to Alpharetta , Georgia three years ago due to job relocation and although he likes the Alpharetta area he assures me the schools in Georgia are terrible , with the usual gang and drug problems and very low national rankings ... something like 47 rd or 48 th in the country , lower even then Florida !!!

He claims the traffic is worse than Florida and I tend to agree since I travel to Atlanta often . On the up side the cost of living is lower than in South Florida , you have the four seasons and people are friendlier .

I would have to agree about the school system here in GA as well, but my son is out of high school and attending FSU. Yes traffic here in GA is a bear, but it doesn't really effect us as we work from home. We sold our home in Cooper City and moved here and outside of missing friends and family, we love it. We got a house that would have cost a million dollars in S. Florida and the people are quite friendly!

Wow your son is a Seminole , I thought most people in Georgia leaned towards the Gators !!!

We fell in love with the Windward Parkway area of Alpharetta and as long as you stay North of downtown , Atlanta is great . You are correct about the housing costs a lovely brick or stucco home is about 40 - 50 % less than what you would pay in South Florida . Also nice that you can drive to Florida beaches in less than four hours !!!

Yep, my son is a Nole, my husband is a die hard Cane, and me, whatever. My husband was raised in Miami, and I moved to Fla in 1980. We moved to GA in January and there are lots of Gator fans.

I grew up in Connecticut and now work in Broward County Public Schools. The schools are very different than up north, the standards are lower, the schools are overcrowded. Weston is a very nice community if you like gated communities where everyone drives a mercedes or land rover. The middle and high schools are better than many others in the county, however, still not the best. We have two small children and are looking to leave the area before they become of school age, it's very urban and just isn't the place we want to raise our kids. If at all possible, I would come to visit for awhile before making a decision, especially when kids are involved. I think south florida is a great place for single or professional couples, lots to do, great culture, etc. but my perspective changed a lot once I had kids.

Where in Ct? I was borned and raised in New Haven, moved out in 1980 to S. Florida, and just recently to GA this past January.

I totally agree with you in your post, S. Fla is great when you are single, but the whole state school system is lacking. My perspective changed as well and my son went through the Cooper City schools which is supposed to be one of the best!

There is an "A" rated elementary school named Hawkes Bluff in Davie, "Ivanhoe" community, homes are 300k (zero lot) to over 500.

Wow this thread was interesting, we have desisted to move to Florida after reading this threads and also checking prices in Craigslist!

We've been checking into Atlanta and is so affordable and some areas have great schools, not only A schools but I mean the kind like we have here in Boston, Magnets, international Bachalaurate etc, is the first thread I actually have hear bad comments about the schools there.

Please tell me more about Weston! if we don't like Florida we are thinking moving to this place, everyone loves it!
