Relo to Coral Spring from MA?
We currently live in Western Massachusetts. I have a good friend that lives in Coral Springs FL. I have always wanted to move to FL, but have hesitated.
My husband is an electrical contractor so he would have to find a job there. Is the economy really bad there as it is here in MA?
Also, I have a 16 yo daughter who is in a Vocational High School for Cosmetology. She will be in 11th grade. I have not been able to find a vocational high school that offers cosmetology in the Coral Springs area. Did I miss any?(She is 100% on board for moving to FL). I have one that is graduated already, and one that I homeschool.
I love the heat. We have bad winters here and they are LONG.
I hate this state. But is this going from frying pan into the fire?

The economy is really bad here, probably worse than Mass., and esp in any construction-related field. We had a lot of development and then overnight it just stopped, leaving many people unemployed.
I would definitely urge you to not relocate without a job in place. There are probably cosmetology schools around altho I don't know anything about them.
Maybe look to Texas? The economy is doing much better there. Sorry to be so negative!

TX and TN were my other two choices. Thanks for the honesty and heads up.

I have heard TN is not doing so well either though...so be weary with TN. Texas though I have heard has been pretty much immune from this recession we are in.

Texas got a ton of money from the last administration, so its understandable why they're doing better than most places.

I would't go to TN, it's worse there than in FL.
I'm in Coral Springs and I have a remodeling business that is doing really well actually, new construction is non existent but remodeling is stronger than ever, we are charging less than in the past, but we are very busy. It's all a matter of delivering what's expected and finishing on time and the referrals keep coming.
If your husband can be licensed in a short time he would have no problem finding a job. Licensed electricians are in high demmand, as well as licensed plumbers. I myself am always in need of both for all my jobs and the biggest problem I have is that they are so busy I have to get in line to get them to do my work.
Just go on s. fla craigslist and see how many companies are looking for qualified electricians everyday.
As for the cosmetology school...I can't help you on that! But I think there is one in Pompano which is only about 6 miles away.

I would agree with granitelady... I haven't heard many good things about TN either (great to visit but not much work i.e. high unemployment). Also I have seen in first hand that licensed electricians/plumbers well actually any reliable skilled person to hard to come by... so if he is good at what he does and maintains good worth ethics and he will plenty of work here. It will take some time but it will happen!

To be honest, I really liked the Tennessee idea because I think it's really pretty - didn't think that one out!!! Sorry, OP.
I still wouldn't come here as a trades person without a job lined up. People are falling all over themselves for the small jobs we have in the foreclosure we're getting; even coming the day we call for estimates. The electrical job we have is to take out an ungrounded outlet to a generator which we were told could kill a lineman who would be working on a down line after a storm. The fix is about $125.

Eco is bad here, let's just say the people from FL are moving to the NC or SC. Houses are cheap there, much cheaper then FL a house in FL worth 400k will go for 130k in NC. Not to mention it's one of the only states that is growing during this time.
