We now enjoy the 4 seasons and nature all around along with keeping most of the same amenities including the lizards, Publix, Walgreens, still tropical up this way and oh those wonderful thunderstorms, especially lately.
I was in South Fl a month ago and the streets were dead, as were some restaraunts. I asked a few friend's and they said ever since the recession people have been moving out, people have been staying home, and kids are out of school.

Traffic wasn't so bad...

Traffic is great right now, but what do I know since I work at home. I'm glad lots of people are moving out. It makes me love the place even more now.

I have to agree. I don't know exactly what it is but the feeling here is improving. People seem somehow happier. Even the tone on this board has become more positive lately.

Every time I come home from just about anywhere else the traffic never seems bad here. I think the biggest traffic issue here is 595 (which they are about to try to fix) and the inefficient/dated timing of the traffic lights on many of the streets.

i think the biggest traffic issue here is that some people aren't paying attention while driving. i guess it is like that everywhere.

Default What do I miss?

After having spent my entire life in Florida, I've recently relocated to Ventura County, CA with my husbands job. Although I can think of many worse places to have gone, I certainly miss the following about Fort Lauderdale:

The turquoise blue waters & white sandy beaches
My friends
A close airport
Blondies/Lulu's Bait Shack/Carrabba's
The beautiful people
My lovely home in the Riverland area

The things I do not miss:
Road Rage/cars that do not belong on the road
Concrete jungle
Pretentious people
LITTER
Humidity
Crime

Moved to Atlanta area in 1993. I miss sailing in Biscayne Bay where you could drop anchor and hear only the breeze, with the Miami skyline in the distance. Miss the Everglades. Miss the aquamarine water. The daily summer thunderstorms with 2 inches of rain in one shot. Clear, warm, breezy winter days. Coconut and royal palms. The abundance of mangoes and avocadoes in the summer, oranges and grapefruit in the winter.

Don't miss the development that finally actually hit the Everglades levee. I boycotted the Sawgrass Expressway when it first opened (until I unfortunately found that it really saved me time driving to my job in west Dade). We dropped our jaws when Weston was developed - who would buy out there in the Everglades? They'll be flooded out first hurricane, we thought. There are nice, nice people in south Florida, but the unhappy displaced transplants eclipsed them. Don't miss road rage - I experienced a couple of really scary incidents. Most significantly, I found that a sense of tenseness just vanished after moving away, a tenseness that I didn't even realize I had that must have come from the feeling that I had to constantly "watch my back" outside of home and work.

Love to go back and visit, but I'm glad to be in Georgia.
