*gulp* Here would be my only concerns. Coming from DC, you may be used to an environment where there are young, poppin', a bit more agressive professionals all over the place ready to climb up the ladder. I am fairly young (27), an accountant, and am also the youngest person on my job. Everyone else is much older. In my experiences, people are very laid back here, a little slower, and generally content with their positions. You will not see people (even young ppl) constantly flipping jobs to get to the next best level. (This can be a positive or negative for anyone, so take that as you may..). Also other people may have different experiences or opinions on this.
Second, as a black female myself, I've always told my friends that S. Florida is NOT the place be for a someone young, AA, professional, and single. I would shuffle this place to the bottom of my list. There is literally a laundry list of reasons as to why I don't recommend it mainly starting from the lack of seeing other people similar to you on a daily basis and ending with the dating scene/nightlife for young black professionals. (Once again this is also up to interpretation and ultimately may not matter to you).
Finally, I have no kids but I have heard that childcare was fairly expensive.
Other than that you may find that you love it!! Who knows? Don't let me discourage you. It all depends on the kind of person you are but please note that S. Florida is not for everyone.
My only advice is to visit visit visit and do all the homework you can prior to moving.

hi there-
can you tell me the good areas around ft lauderdale and the ones to definitely avoid. What about the ones with good schools as well?

I would really appreciate it as I am getting recruited by this ad agency in Ft Lauderdale.

What do you think of around Aventura, Davie or places south?

I really appreciate your help here
