Move to Fort Lauderdale underway
Well my relocation to Fort Lauderdale is underway, the apartment is rented and the truck has been reserved for May 31st. I am coming down to assume a new position with my firm from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I wanted to know if folks familiar with my new surroundings can give me some insights as to what I might expect right away, and in the coming months? I am not very familiar with the city, so really any insights and/or advice would be appreciated.
I am coming down with my fiance, so maybe some fun things for us to do would be nice too.
Thanks all for the help:
Nick

ft. lauderdale beach is really nice by las olas and a1a, downtown lauderdale riverwalk area and himmarshee st is packed on weekends with bars, restaurants etc, las olas blvd a bit east of riverwalk is upscale shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. hard rock hotel and casino out in hollywood has a million things going on all the time. south beach 45 minutes to the south. tons of golf courses all over, sawgrass mills outlet mall in sunrise. there is no shortage of entertainment options in south florida. just be prepared for absolute culture shock coming from minnesota. be careful with people and get to know someone real well before u even think about trusting them. just ignore all the rude people. if u r making really good money and get to meet some nice people u may like it here

Thanks, I hope it isn't too bad. I am living north of the downtown area, though I work there. I think my zip code is 33308.

Expect increasing heat, a small decrease in the number of tourists, afternoon clouds and showers. Spend some quality time exploring and asking questions of the local shopkeepers. Polo shirts and lightweight slacks are good everyday wear. It may take some time for your blood to thin out, so keep some cold water with you.

i lived in 33306 which was like the coral ridge part of ft lauderdale, very nice. 33308 should be nearby, nice neighborhgoods over there, some ratty apts but the homes can be mansions on the water. if u have a professional job, and your girlfriend is with u then you should be ok around there. just very very different than minnesota. enjoy the experience, good luck
