Default Parkland, Broward County

Advice, opinion & tips on Parkland would be appreciated, The good, the bad and the ugly, please. Schools, commute not an issue and rental/ purchase cost have been investigated already.
Needs are: large homes on very large lots, privacy, sense of surrounding open space, local people/culture/attitide, services for shopping, medical and higher education.
Thank you.

Parkland is the nicest part of broward county. it has the best public high school, stoneman douglass. many large, mansion type homes with land. very upper class, super high end neighborhood. the culture is superficial, very new york-ish, kinda rude "i am better than u" type people. northwest corner of broward so kinda far from downtown, the beach, airport but all are within 45 mins to an hr. close to boca. if u have to live in broward then thats about the best spot to be.

Very upscale area, high Jewish population. Its high school is one of the few I heard good things about in the state of Florida. Probably a safe bet.

P.S. FYI Some neighboring parts of Coral Springs send there students to Parkland school as well.

Parkland is the new Weston and I cannot find anything negative about it ... good schools , beautiful parks , low crime , excellent services , etc , etc

Aside from the most beautiful homes in Broward, the city is pretty obnoxious. Mostly pretentious idiots riding around with their "PHO" stickers (Parkland Homeowners Organization). Parklander's are the butt of many jokes in neighboring Coral Springs, where I live. (Mostly because we're also jealous of their homes.)

If you're the type that likes to follow politics, be aware that their city government doesn't come up to the standards of your local High School Student Council. People running for office just for the ego, ignorant about the laws, fighting amongst themselves...the absolute worst posturing and nonsense you've ever heard.

It's a selfish city too, that wants to benefit from neighboring city services but that won't contribute. real big on the "not in my backyard" department. As an example, they are currently fighting Coral Springs regarding the extension of University Drive.

You see, Parkland wants to annex a ton of acres from Palm Beach County to build more homes. However, these thousands of additional residents will kill State Road 7 (also called 441) with additional traffic, the closest north-south road. And Parkland is fighting the extension of 441 through their town because it will mean more traffic where THEY live. Plus, the nearby casino is going through a massive expansion, further adding to the traffic heading 441's way.

Like most things, Parkland will lose this fight, because like I said, you have never met a more ignorant city government in your LIFE. (The shmucks even paint their few firetrucks GREEN for God's sake, not just because they think red is an ugly color for a firetruck, but because they just HAVE to be different, you know?)

Wanna hear about their police department? The one they don't have any more? Because they just HAD to have their own police department, didn't know how to run one, had the lowest percentage of solving crimes and the highest percentage of lawsuits against them, and hired a consultancy firm who basically told them:

"This is the worst police department we have ever done analysis for in the 50 years of our company's existence. If you don't shut this thing down NOW and use Broward Sheriff instead, you're all NUTS!"

If you can afford to move there, it's beautiful. But please don't become LIKE them.

Although this is just speculation but it is running the same course as other cities with development. They were just talking in the local paper just this week about a 1000 new homes they are adding in parkland while they are not building the proposed schools they were supposed to build. It is nice but I would not expect it to stay that way over time, it is changing. I know people who liver there from the beginning and they are not happy anymore.

Beautiful homes, to many snobs. Had a friend that lived there and hated it because people were so stuck up. If she waved to a neighbor they just gave her a dirty look.

friend of mine lives in the country club in Parkland. Says his mothers home is now worth half (if that) of what she paid for it. Said he has to turn his high beams on at night because the street is so dark. Says its dark because many of the homes in his area are uninhabited now due to foreclosure or unoccupied sale.

Everyone has pretty much nailed it. Would be a nice place if not for the people. Big overpriced homes with lots of grass but it has the same problem as Weston...its on the edge of a swamp, as far west as you can be. I wouldn't call any neighborhood "super high end" if its not waterfront with ocean access.
