Working in Margate but where to live?
I heard Margate isn't a nice area to live in..but any surrounding areas that are relatively close, nice, clean areas to live in?
Thanks

It all depends on what your budget is.

Margate is fine. You just have to choose the right neighborhood. We are moving out of the Kimberly Forest area, after having lived there for over a dozen years. Quiet streets, great neighbors, nearby shopping, etc.. If we ever moved back to south Florida, we'd be trying to get the house we just sold.
Another area that looks quiet is west of Rock Island on Margate Blvd. (East is quiet as well, but with a little more traffic.)
There are areas with smaller houses that might attract less affluent people as the retirees die off, and there are areas near north Lauderdale that are a little iffy, but IMO Margate is much better than Coral Springs or Pompano Beach, or the surrounding areas. Sounds like someone gave you bad advice, based on incomplete knowledge of the city.

I would stay in the North-West part of Margate. (Borderline Coral Springs but a little cheaper)

"Much of Margate is dangerous and congested."
Care to back that up with some specifics? As a long time resident, I'm curious to know what I have been missing. I've biked around a lot of the city, and not experienced that in the residential areas. Instead, I've had many people wave and smile as I peddled my 'bent. We have never been burglarized, and there have been nights we've accidently left the garage door wide open.
I have a hard time understanding how a Palm Beach resident would have better knowledge than me about how dangerous and congested the city is. I could in turn point out that Palm Beach residents sometimes have to deal with escaped tigers, but that would be only telling part of the story.

Actually, come to think of it, I just checked the crime statistics for Margate and it actually seems pretty safe. Maybe it was just the one section I was in at the time. However I do know alot about other parts of the state besides my county, and when I said Margate was dangerous I was really thinking of Pompano Beach.

Margate has an independent police force, and they do a good job of immediate reaction to any problems. I have to reluctantly agree about Pompano Beach. There have been increasing reports of crime and violent crimes there.
