We used to refer to that school as being ghetto, and that was going back in 1996 when I graduated, it's probably the same if not worse.

Or are ele/middle good in each of PP, Weston and Plantation? sorry to be repeating myself
Definitely apply for the scholarships at AH. They have need-based and merit-based. Most of my kids' friends have one kind or another, and in some cases, both.

The best place to find out more is here: American Heritage School
and look under financial aid & fine arts scholarships. I know they also have scholarships that they give to kids either entering or in the 9th grade (dont remember which) for high SAT (the college entrance test) scores and of course, they have athletic scholarships. The best way to find out the details of each is probably to call.

Don't get so hung up on the A/B thing. Chances are that a school that is a C or D is pretty bad but it is hard for schools to stay A schools forever. Part of the school grade is calculated on how much of an improvement the bottom kids make. So if a school's bottom kids are at a higher level, but don't show as much improvement it will affect the school grade in a negative way despite OVERALL higher performance.

The percentage of 10th graders passing the Reading FCAT was as following:

Cypress Bay-64%
Douglas-57%
Coral Glades-44%

Yet Coral Glades is an A school while Douglas and Cypress Bay are B schools. Most of the reason is that Coral Glades made a higher percentage of learning gains. However, overall perforrmance on the test is higher at the other schools. I don't think test scores tell you everything about a school but these school letter grades tell you even less.

Scholarships are for incoming 9th graders. Tests are given in February of 8th grade for academic scholarships, auditions for fine arts scholarships are in March.

Academic scholarships are 50 or 100 percent. Fine Arts scholarships are 25, 50 or 100 percent. Scholarships do not cover books, uniforms, transportation, or supplies. Students are eligible for financial aid in addition to any scholarships they may have.

I agree - Momma - I don't put all my eggs in one basket with that - I'm sure to go over all their test Scores - I think for the most part - cooper city, PP, Davie and Coral Springs are about the same - Weston is better than all on a whole although PP Charter performs just as well as Cypress on certain things - but like you said they still lack - so hoping for that scholarship LOL!

Wow - 100% - I will definitely be looking into that for next year - do you know what grade point average they have to keep up? I would assume at least a 3.5?

The academic scholarship is based on grades, test score, extracurricular activites, and an essay. Once they get a scholarship they have to maintain a 4.0 WEIGHTED GPA. Grades are weighted so that an A in a regular class is a 4.0, honors is 5.0. and AP is 6.0.
