Default Pompano A1A Between 14th Causeway and Atlantic

This is a cool forum. I need some advice. I'm thinking of moving to this area. What is it like?

If it's a cheap house in Pompano then avoid it at all costs...

Much of Pompano is run-down and dangerous. There are some decent areas of it, but if it's low-cost housing then most of the time it'll be in the type of area where you'll have to put safety bars on your window and risk being shot. If you're looking to buy in Pompano be sure to check out the area first.

I know about the bad areas of Pompano. But what about at the A1A area? Still bad? No I'm not looking to buy, just to rent. If it doesn't work out, I'll leave. No biggie.

I recently drove down A1A through Pompano. I recall a lot of new high rise condos just put up or being put up. Did not seem dangerous, but not positively impressive either: big purchasing power but no class is the American way.

It might be alright as a temporary situation, it really depends on why you are coming and for how long. To seek outlets you probably have to go further down to Fort Lauderdale or up to Boca Raton. Most of Broward County just west of A1A, around Federal Hwy and I-95, is crud, although this could change in the coming years and decades. For the moment, though, you have to go further west to find the best of suburban Broward County.

In any case, if you restrict yourself to A1A you should be alright.

Good luck.

Pompano is BOOMING! The commercial strip on E. Atlantic Bl. between Federal (US1) and the ocean is brimming with cafe's, deli's and small business. Housing is UNDER valued by comparison to many SoFla communities. The area in particular you're asking about is fantastic. You're a quarter mile south of Hillsborough Beach's "Millionaires Row" one of the prettiest places in America.

Yes, some areas west of Federal around Copans have trouble but it's well contained. I read that Pompano had 10 murders last year which isn't ultra safe but for a town of 106,000 people isn't horrible either. The chances of being a crime victim east of the intracoastal are rare.

Are you thinking condo or SFH?

we'll probably be checking out those areas up in broward this weekend. ill let you guys know what i found. our friends in boca told us to stay away from riviera beach though. they say 90% of the stabbings and shootings they hear about on the news always seem to happen there.

I live on riverside dr. just north of 14th street causeway. this area is very safe, convenient to the beach, convenient to federal highway. Plenty of broward sheriffs patrol the area frequently. I've been here 7 years and have never seen anything bad happen.

The OP was asking about areas near A1A near the beach and on the barrier island. You sir are referring to areas in Northwest or southwest Pompano. The beach community is gradually being revitalized and more than safe. I have two ten year old girls and live in the area and they are very safe living here.
