We have been living in Weston for a while. We like it here, but we have no land whatsoever. We moved here for the schools, but our youngest will be starting private school next fall. My husband works in Fort Lauderdale, and I am also in Fort Lauderdale at least 3 days a week.

We would like to move to the area of Plantation that is north of Broward Boulevard, west of the Turnpike, and east of University (really east of 65th street). We are looking to spend no more than $700K on a house. Does this area have a name?

I am searching Plantation and Plantation Park but very little comes up.

What am I doing wrong? I might just get in the car and look for For Sale signs......

Sorry to hear that you are leaving. Good luck on your house hunting.

We don't know for sure that we are leaving. We have to take a look at what's available there and then decide. We want to move to be closer to my husband's office, but most of the homes I see that would be what we're looking for are in Plantation Acres. IMO it doesn't save my husband enough time to be worth moving from Weston to Plantation around Flamingo. We would like to be in that little area around Fig Tree Lane.....

Sounds like you're looking for 'Plantation Secluded Gardens', and 'Plantation Gardens'. Although they're not the only neighborhoods there, they occupy most of the space in the area you described and may be the most likely to suit your goals and budget. Just try to pay less, to make it easier for us to buy there when the time comes!

700K + 'Little area around Fig Tree Lane'... I think this puts you in 'Historic Plantation' league, rather than in the Gardens neighborhoods. Some really nice places there, some others that are faded and need TLC. One of the coolest areas, IMO, happy house hunting.

I love this area! We looked here too when we made the move out of the Weston/Davie area. We were tired of the cookie cutter homes out West and this part of Plantation and even Jacaranda has some really individual/unique homes. Love it there! The only problem was just weren't looking at the right time where the homes and locations we wanted were available and the ones that were available bordered on some seedy areas. I wanted to be in the middle of the older Plantation area.

Best of luck. Just keep seaching the MLS and one is bound to come up. Don't forget about Jacaranda. We ended up finding a fantastic mid-century home in The Woodlands anyway that we fell in love with.

don't forget plantation has a volunteer fire dept. That may not bother some, but I would never live in an area that has a volunteer fire dept unless forced to. call me crazy !

I grew up in an area where volunteer fire departments were the norm.
