Ok, so probably moving down in June from the NE (yes, I'm prepared to be hot, sticky and "miserable" for my first few months as I adjust).

Looking at Pompano area or Ft. Lauderdale (preferable near the beach or los olas).

Not looking to spend a ton on rent..

But want to be in a fun area, good social life and/or cheap cab rides to places (no drinking and driving!).

Ok people, any ideas or suggestions?

Waverly looks great but more then i'm looking to spend as I get settled down there (see: look for work).

Also, what are the policy for most place on having a grill (charcoal) on a balcony? around here it's against the law... has to be on ground and 30 feet from a building... (and in about 20yrs of grilling I've had the fire dept get called to complain once..).

Anyway, all advice and thoughts appreciated... my family down there is Lauderhill, Pompano Beach and Plantation.

Thanks in advance! I'll be down in May to explore but would like to narrow down the search a bit to concentrate my time on areas i'll want to be.

Anything in the same class as The Waverly is going to be expensive. Las Olas is the most expensive area in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County. You can find more modest apartment communities further north on Federal Highway. Port Royale is one place that gets mentioned often on this message board.

By fire code, you cannot BBQ on a balcony with a unit directly above you. Don't even think of trying, as someone will report you ASAP.

Hello Florida, I'm looking to move and want a place that's warmer and cleaner. I'm a artist (oil painter) and photo and digital technician with many years of experience from n.y.c. But now I want a change, can I get some advise, from someone out there.
