ok, looks like i'm june or july i'm moving... i've near Boston most my life and want a change.

My original plan for Las Vegas, but I do have family in Florida so that may make more sense.

If I move down, it's probably going to be Pompano Beach or Fort Lauderdale, for my first 6mo-1yr i'll rent something on the beach or across the street, just so I can wake up and go to sleep hearing the waves and remind me why I live there.

So, any advice on one place over the other?

Also, it seems whenever someone asks about Florida all anyone ever posts are the negatives...

it's hot/humid/sticky, hurricane season, afternoon downpours, bugs, insects, reptiles, rude people, bad drivers, etc....

Funny thing is, go to any board... same thing... everyone seems to think where they live sucks and no one should move there....

so, tell me the POSITIVES!

I admit, i'm not a huge bug fan, but that's why they make exterminators... and it gets humid up here, just not as hot or for as long, but thats part of my reason to be on the beach and my car has A/C... plus it's better to have to go into A/C then into heat and shovel snow...

Because LBTS - you can get something virtually on the sand, in the best small beach town in the area.

Fort Lauderdale you are going to be a couple blocks away past a busy A1A, and Pompano is just nothing special.

LBTS is the last place in the area with a little old Florida charm left and a great beach area with restaurants, a pier, etc.

It's right in-between Ft. Lauderdale and Pompano too.

I'd go with Fort Lauderdale. There is more bars/restaurants and fun stuff to do. Pompano Bch isn't bad either, but it gets really ghetto when you get away from the beach area.

If you're from Massachusetts, you're probably use to bad drivers and rude people, so that aspect won't come as a shocker. If you live close to the ocean, bugs won't be too much of a problem either. Just make sure to bring your sunscreen!

palm trees, the ocean or the gulf just a drive away (even better if you live closer), diversity, good food, rich in culture. Just keep an open mind and the glass will always be half full!

Why do people exaggerate about the bugs? It's not nearly as terrible as people on here make it out to be. But as for your question, I'd choose Fort Lauderdale. But that's just because it's closer to many of the places I frequently go to(stores, friends, restaurants etc). Pompano is a bit more laid back, older crowd.
