Hollywood is seedy. Hollywood is sketchy. Hollywood is rough. WAAWAAWAAA!!!! Shut up.

I've lived in many different places in sofla and Hollywood is just fine. It's actually better than a lot of places.

So what there are some not so great areas. This is south florida. Go lock yourselves in a gated community or a condo building if thats what you need to feel safe. The people who badmouth hollywood don't know what they are talking about. For average working class people Hollwood is not a bad place to live.

I really could care less what some of the losers on this forum say about anything. Im just bored.

Do you disagree that there are some gritty neighborhoods in Hollywood?

There are some lovely neighborhoods as well. If I were looking for a working class neighborhood I think that there are better choices in Broward than Hollywood.

I really like Downtown Hollywood and Hollywood Beach ... these are fun lively areas ... other areas of Hollywood not so much .. I guess it is like any other city in South Florida .

Hollywood has my vote. What a fantastic city. I looked at homes near South Lake, the beach area and near Hollywood Blvd before we bought here. Just love how all the homes are different there.

And Hollywood is a REAL city. Not some Disney-esque type community out West that thinks it's a city (with large maintenance dues too!)

I love going out to Hollywood and having fun in Downtown. I've never felt I wasn't safe here. Oh and the beaches are great!

Hollywood is a very large area. It extends east-west from the ocean to the Turnpike, and north-south from almost Fort Lauderdale down to the Dade County line. It is a large square shaped area. The actual city of Hollywood is really only east of Dixie Highway to the intracoastal waterway. That is the cool part. The rest of Hollywood seems to consist of lower and middle-income neighborhoods with a much older housing stock then lets say Plantation or Coral Springs.

Whenever I go to east Hollywood in the vicinity of US1, Young Circle, and anywhere east of I-95, I see a disproportionate number of homeless and grungy people walking the streets compared to other areas of Broward County. On US1, from a few blocks north of Young Circle all the way north to Dania Beach is very seedy and sketchy. Whoever denies that must take a drive down that stretch. Once you go west of I-95 on Hollywood Blvd., the neighborhood seems to be heavily lower-income minorities, primarily of Mexican decent. Then once you go further north on 441, the neighborhood gradually becomes Native American as you go onto the reservation.

Overall, I like Hollywood a lot, particularly the downtown area near Young Circle and the beach areas. I do not like the rest of Hollywood as it seems like a very trashy and unappealing place to live. I'm sure there are some areas that are exceptions, but overall it is nowhere near as nice as the western suburbs.

All I can say to this is huh???? The neighborhood west of 95 is largely "white trash" although pretty well integrated (no Mexicans though), with large pockets of wealthy Jewish people that seem out of place (Emerald Hills?) and a lot of more middle class whites too. I would say that the area stretching from 95 westward to about 56th Ave is at least 70% white, and probably one of the biggest "white" holdouts in the county, and you would honestly find more Hispanics in Cooper City then you would find in that area. I would also call this area more middle class with a blue collar edge (think Hollywood Hills). Over by State Road 7 it turns more Hispanic and more low income but with hardly any Mexicans and more Central Americans and working class South Americans. I would say that area is about half Hispanic (from anywhere but Mexico), 40% "white trash" and 10% other. The reservation actually has very few Native Americans and mostly consists (again) of "white trash" with a couple of Hispanics from anywhere but Mexico.

Hi Sk07 and all...Maybe I see things differently, But I am one of the lucky ones I guess in that I find a lot of contentment and peace and beauty in my neighborhood. For me, it has a great community feel, it is right off Park Road...Hillcrest. I am blessed to see greenery and the golf course every morning, and I like the proximity to the Police Dept, Publix, Drug stores, I-95 etc. You may be right in that it is a great neighborhood for your average working class person, which I am. Thanks for the support and you have a beautiful day !

In fairness to those people who think Hollywood is hood - perhaps it is because your idea of hood is different than some others - I personally do not think of it as hood - yes there are some shady areas but I wouldn't constitute it as hood. No this is not a nyer saying my hood is worse than your hood - I actually think Baltimore is scarier than NY and most parts of Florida - pork and beans projects - that is HOOD - nothing in Hollywood gave me that feeling.
