“ Council members agree it's a huge problem that deserves more investigation.

Towler would not accuse city workers of stealing fuel, but he says a system to track gas used by city employees was disabled in 2007.
Data was also manually changed on many occasions, more than 1,000 times in 2009 alone.”

Audit requested in Cape Coral missing fuel case

$5 million in Cape fuel costs unaccounted for
He claims over the last five years the city's fuel consumption has nearly doubled.
He says that's ironic considering fleet size, staff size and budgets have all significantly dropped.

Towler says the city has no checks and balances - leaving the system open to abuse and theft by either the vendor or staff members.

" The "corrupted and ineffective" management controls indicated in Towler's report has caused the city to waste millions of dollars in fuel, he wrote. "

Fearing fraud might be involved the city’s Audit Committee recommended the move to help interim city auditor Margaret Krym.
The purchases can’t be explained because there aren’t any monitoring controls in place to determine how much fuel was actually delivered and to detect any unauthorized use or theft, he said. “

Three things that say all the same thing. Yes, there are accountability / security issues, but they are going to be addressed.

$5 000 000 tax money has been vanished instead of being invested in the city, that's the "issue" !

And might be happening again or is already happening somewhere else, as there has been no auditing. Please read the links.

And everyone questioned the value of the independent consultant who came in and did the study. I guess he earned his money, eh?

Supposedly, this started back in 2007. How many of the current council members, auditors, and city planners worked back then are currently employed now?

Taking this out on the current council and blaming them for things that have happened in the past serves no purpose. They became aware of the circumstances and are in the process of trying to find where the accountability lies. What else do you want them to do? The money is gone, but ways to correct the situation will be put into place.

I have read the articles. Countless times that they have keep appearing over and over again.

What I don't get is with 5 Million bucks missing why is nobody in jail.
The citizens/tax payers of Cape Coral should demand a general investigation of where the money goes that is collected.
All the money needs to be accounted for.

Over the past 3 years, it should have been detected, though. Someone was and is responsible for oversight of that gas. It may not be the current city council, but whoever that person is, he / she should be held accountable for this major gaffe.

City auditors..useless and independent auditors are not really independent and are too expensive:

You know that the city is living off borrowed money. These so called independent consultants, two, are getting $ 20000 each for 3 months and their contract will be extended.

These expensive consultants were brought in by a previously unknown city manager who is reported to be under-qualified and his own hiring was suspicious and being confirmed to have been forced upon Sullivan by the vice Chairman of Republican party...he was not elected but selected by friends of friends.
When the city manager without telling any one in the council moved $50 000 000 of tax money to his favorite money managers, these auditors did not say a word. So, be careful that a bone is thrown to the dog, so that the thief can enter the house.

Also, 2 other additional consultants are going to be hired at $56 an hour. While on the other hand the city is cutting back on services and is running up the debt every single day without any benefit to the city.

For each point that I have mentioned, just copy what I have written then paste it to Google search and you can read the whole backup information. These information I have already posted with links in many other threads of this forum.
